Guys, I'm so nervous right now, my doctor put me on Paxil for my anxiety, and I'm afraid that it will cause nausea. Has anyone ever been on this and how are the side effects? I was on this a couple years ago, and I stopped taking it because of the nausea. She gave me a lower dose this time, and told me to work up to the higher dose. I don't know if the nausea was all in my head last time or if it was real. I need someone's help\advice, I'm really weary about this.

    Thanks!! Kelly

Any medication can cause nausea. When I was in nursing school and they asked for potential side effects of medication, you could say nausea and v* and get the answer right. I think the MOST common side effect of Paxil is fatigue.

The meds i am taking caused n... when i started them. no v.... though. the n...... could have been caused by anxiety but i dont think so.

It all depends on the meds and the person i think. But try not to think about it, just remember the pills are there to help you and if you did start to feel n.... its not the same as having a bug so it dosnt mean youll v....

but then again i was put on a high dose immediately, if you start small then increase you shouldnt have any side effects

Wow..this is wierd! I am weaning off of paxil CR (12.5 mg) and you will be increasing!! LOL! I am now taking a pill every 4th day, and after another 2 weeks of this, I will be done.

The reason I am weaning, is because it has hindered my sex life and is causing some marital frustrations because of it. I would also wake up every night soaked with sweat. (another side effect) Now just because I experienced these side effects, doesn't mean you will. You can atleast give the meds a try.

As far as nausea...I have NEVER had nausea with paxil or paxil CR. (I have been on both of them) I must say though, that paxil is awesome for anxiety and depression!! If I start having depression and bad anxiety again, I will probably start takingpaxil again. I just wanna be drug-free for a while to see how I do. Before I got on paxil this time, I had just weaned off of lexapro. (which is good for mainly depression)

Even if you do experience slight nausea with paxil, just remember, you will only feel that way until the meds build up in your system, and your body gets used to them. Eating when you start to feel nauseatedwill help. You will be fine!! Take care, Charlotte

So funny, I went to the doc's yesterday and he gave me Celexa to take, and I'm petrified so I don't think I will.

But you are brave, let us know how you are doing!

I worry about EVERYTHING!!! Now that I started on these meds, I think my anxiety has increased!! And it's only been 1 day!! LOL. I'm hoping to feel a little more relaxed and not be on them for long.

Charlotte, I started reading that book that you read, and I really like it. I can see how it can help. I'm only at chapter 4,and I'm doing the excercises that it tells you to do. I'm really excited about it,hopefully it will help!!!

what is the name of the book you are reading? the paxil takes about 2 weeks to give you the full effect of it, and i think you will see a difference.

The book is "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" by Dr. Joseph Murphy. It's really interesting. It tells you how to change the way you think, so that you can take alot of negative things (such as phobias)out of your life.

Hi, Kelly! I'm glad you are brave enough to try again! The plus side of it is that you did take it before and you did feel sick but didnt' get sick now w/ a lower dosage you KNOW you won't get sick and any sick feeling should be even less than before. Good luck!

I'm on regular Paxil, and I've never felt nauseated from it. It really helps. I've been on all of the doses or tried all of them for seven years now. Now though, I'm on the lowest dose (10mg), and it works great. The higher dose you take does affect your sex life (not everyone's, but it did mine, so I decreased it). I think the main side effect I got when I first started taking it was fatigue. I also get night sweats, but they really don't bother me. I think you'll be fine and be happy with the medicine.

Wow, they just cut you off of lexapro?? Did you feel any of the "zaps"?

My doc had me take lexapro for the first 2 weeks that I started paxil CR.

I can't believe I had sexual side effects with paxil, (this time) on such a low dose!! (12.5 mg) Charlotte

I was on Paxil and could not have an orgasm to save my life. My poor husband worked and worked and worked but no go. But the other problem, and way more major, was how difficult it was to get off it. There's actually a class action suit in the U.S. against the makers of Paxil because of how difficult it can be to get off it. Please use Paxil with caution. I am now on Celexa and it's way better.

Is that why they have the Paxil CR now, that is supposed to be better than the regluar Paxil?

Not to disappoint you, but in my opinion, paxil CR is the same if not worse with the weaning side effects. I was an idiot, and stopped taking it "cold turkey" about 5-6 weeks ago, and 3-4 days later, I kept getting those "zaps" and dizziness, and an intense headache. It was so bad, that I had to have hubby get me a paxil CR refill just to get rid of the side effects; that is when (the next day) I called my doc to ask him how to properly wean off. So...I am now taking the paxil CR every 4th night, for another week or so.

The difference in paxil and paxil CR, is paxil CR is "time released", and releases the drug as needed in your body, instead of on big steady dose. The "CR" stands for controlled release.

I am noticing now that I am weaning off, that I no longer sweat profusely, and I actually have a sex drive. (hell, I thought I was going through "the change" early there for a while!...lol)

On the negetive side of weaning, I have noticed lately that I am a rude, snappy bi***!! I hate it! Also, tonight, I have had some anxiety to where I am just fidgity, and my heart is racing. I have no idea what is causeing the anxiety either! I know these are some side effects while weaning off the drug; and man I sure hope they go away once I am done weaning. Charlotte

Wow, that's not something I am looking forward to. I am a little upset that my doctor would even give me this in the first place. I will talk to her about it next time I see her. I hope it helps me a little in the mean time though, I really hate feeling this way. Thanks for sharing Charlotte, I really appreciate it!!!

Kellybean-There are other SSRI's out there (like prozac) that have absolutely no weaning side effects!! I loved that part oabout prozac when I was on it!! It has a longer half-life, unlike some of the other SSRI's such as paxil, lexapro, etc.

Yeah...if the side effects of paxil (or weaning from paxil) sound unappealing, let your doctor know. Maybe you can try prozac...or even sarafem?? Sarafem is prozac; they just changed the name to make it seem more appealing. Sarafem is said to treat symptoms of PMS or PMDDalso,(I have PMDD...Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) but it is just prozac with a fancy name, with a different looking pill. My insurance wouldn't pay for me to take sarafem for very long, so I started taking prozac. (which is basicly the generic form of sarafem)

Good luck with what you decide, and keep us posted!!! Charlotte
