So, I pick up my son from school yesterday and he preceedes to tell me that he had PE for last period...and when a friend told him to look...such and such was throwing up...he said he turned and looked and sure enough the boy was v.....oh my...I started to get hot...so then he said he started gagging just seeing it...and then he said he didn't get sick...but just seeing it almost made him sick...so now I am worried that maybe the class was exposed to this...I asked him if the boy just got too hot in pe class....but then he said the boy didn't do anything in pe...he just stood around which makes me think he was sick to begin with...and didn't just get too hot...what do you all think...hopefully it won't be passed around...all though that is the way it usually goes...I am just being paranoid I know...but you know how these stories freak us out...just thought I would share my story...Kat

I think your son will be ok, it doesn't sound like he was anywhere near the sick kid. It does sound like the kid was sick to begin with since he didn't participate, probably felt ill the whole time. I know how we tend to obsess about these things, but really, I think you're safe here. How gross that your son's friend pointed it out. But I guess that is the difference between emet and non-emet.... I'd have run away, where he saw it as more of a spectacle.

I agree that it doesnt' sound like they were close enough. Plus just because he didn't participate and most likely felt sick before pe doesnt' mean its something contagious. He could have had soemthing gross at lunch or some other reason. Hope this helps!

I hope that you and your son will be ok. Whatever it was that made this kid sick, I dont think it was getting to hot in PE. Maybe it was something he ate. As long as your son wasnt in close contact with him, I wouldnt worry too much. Just tell your son to keep his hands clean and out of his mouth, face in general and that should greatly lessen his chances of getting anything. Yes, I know how things like this can freak us out, read some of the posts in the general discussion forum. I am SOOOOO READY for all this sickness to die down!!

Thanks all of you for your responses....so far...my son is fine...I am just so over panicky about these things...I did have to take a xanax this am...not because of that though...just because I was feeling anxious for some reason..but yeah...I think he just happened to see something happen...not a pleasant experience...and being he is in only the 5th grade..kids...especially boys think V is funny for some reason...who knows...at least they aren't scared of it...that is what my concern was .....that he would sense that I was afraid...then he would be. anyway...thanks for the help...and support...it helps alot...always makes me feel better....hope you all are doing well...Kat

Ugh I feel really bad for you. I hope you and your son do well! Since he didn't notice the boy v*ing I don't think he was near enough to catch anything, and of course you make him practice good hygiene! It doesn't sound like overheating just because he didn't participate at all, but like others said it could be something that he ate.

Oh, I know exactly what you mean about boys of that age thinking v* is funny! When I was in fifth grade the boys in my class would laugh and joke when someone v*ed, while the girls would stand around and make faces and talk about how the boys and the v* were so gross. I think it just comes with the age! But you did well, and he probably didn't sense that you were afraid.
