Today I spent some time on the internet, watching videos on youtube. I'm quite a big fan of a lot of "youtubers" and I very much enjoy watching their videos, but on occasion, they have some references to v*. In sketch comedy, you find that the "graphic" v* is extremely fake, mostly for the comedy factor. Some can be more serious and professional, but in most all the cases none of it is pleasant to watch or hear for an emetophobic. Then, also, you have the reality genres, which would include vlogging. And then, when it comes to v*, it is always very real, but usually people are too modest (and kind!) to show you the whole thing. Usually its just chocking or gagging, or even the "final product", as it were. *shudder*
Now most of the overly graphic and ridiculous stuff I would ignore entirely, but sometimes it takes you by surprise when you're watching, and sometimes you want to finish the video, if only the v* could be skipped. Today I saw a little more than I usually do. There was some pretty bad v*ing in a vlog (some idiot took a shot of clam juice on a dare).
And I watched it a little bit, though I did look away a lot and have to rip my earphones out, but I saw some stuff, and it scared me a bit. But it got me thinking: It's kind of like a very gentle kind of exposure therapy, no? I mean the fake stuff is ridiculous, but it gets you to face the idea, and some of the noises. It will definitely never compare to it in real life, live action, but its a very gentle start.
I apologize for writing so much, and now I'm going to get to the point:
What do you think? I mean, obviously exposure therapy is not the kind of thing that many emetophobics would like to face, but in such a gentle way as that, is it a good thing? It's definitely not enough to traumatize you more, I'm sure. Do you think it would have any positive effect at all?
I would really like to know your opinions.
