Hi all!!! i am from chile...you dont imagine how dificult is to be an emet here..nobody knows this phobia...i dont know anybody with the same problem as me. Well i am new here and i am so happy to find you all!!!..Well i have read all your posts..and everything...i am surprise how you worried about the virus or bugs...i really didnt gave that more importance...I was thinking does anybody shares the steps to follow when we are afraid?...i want to share with you the things i do when i get really scared and have panis attacs:

    1. When you first feel strange and scared just breathe...breathe..slowly

    2. Try not to think on the scare....just try to do things to distract your mind

3.Talk to somebody!! a friend always can make you feel comfortable and can calm you

4.When you feel scared or sick try to get a walk with somebody, that always help because you breathe cool air and you think in another things...

    5. if the scare is too deep....try to take some pills i do with Torecan...or amparax if its too bad...

    6. Write down all the things you feel...then write on the side the worst things could happen, you will realize that is not too bad..Remember we the emets rarely v...because we dont separated well the nauseas with the scare...we feel strange....but that doenst mean we are going to v....its just scare.....thats our worst enemy...we can beat it...

    7. Always remember that this phobia is something that we had on our minds...we own our minds..so think that you can beat your mind because you are the boss!!!! It is a thing of attitude!!!!!! we all can do it!!!!

    8. you will laugh with this but its true!!!: Cry!!!!!! it always help!!!! because you trough the scare out!!!!

    9. This last advice might sound very strange but help to me!: When you are very bad ..desesperated: try to smile!!!! just a smile to the mirror...you will notice that the worst things arent at all...you can live it like a comedy!!! just try it!!!

Hope this advices helps you....it does to me!! and i am an emet fro about10 years.....alone in Chile......Sorry if my english is not too good...i am doing my best...and please always smile!!!! Love you all!!!

Welcome to the site Camila, let me just say that when I am very nervous and having a panic attack because I feel sick smiling in a mirror doesnt help me, I am glad it helps you. I need to be alone when this fear hits me, I dont want anyone near me at all. I think everyone is different on how they deal with this phobia. When you have a child that is vomiting andvomiting it is very hard on myself to grip onto reality. This is a very debilitating phobia and someday I will find a definite way on how to handle it. I am glad that the points that you put down help you, you have found a way to handle your phobia!

you definitely make some good points! i am glad you found us, i'm sorry you haven't had anyone to share this phobia with in the past.

you are definitely right about us owning our minds..that is a good point!! I also do the slow breathing and distracting the mind.

    Welcome Camila!

Welcome to the site! You tips are great! it's good that you have found ways to get through the panic attacks. I'm from the United States and I had never heard of anyone else with this phobia until I found this site, so it's not a common phobia.
