My best friend in the world is suffering from pretty severe depression. He shows all the classic signs, except, thank god, for suicidal thoughts. He has been to see a counselor and is waiting to get a referral to an actual psychiatrist who will hopefully give him some meds. The reason I am posting about this is that I know many of you are depressed and I was wondering if any of you have any advice on what I can do to help him out. The thing is, he has always been there for me through emet and everything else..he has been my rock. I have called him in the middle of the time panicking many times, I have driven to his house at 3am because my sister was throwing up. I can always turn to him when I need anything and I want to be able to be there for him now. Any responses, or PM's or IM's would be greatly appreciated.

My gosh, I know I have suffered with depression.. and I beleibe I still do, but my brain is black..

I think to just generally make sure they KNOW that you are there for them, and leave it to them to bring up the subject, some people kept bugging me and bugging me and that made me feel awful..

It sounds like to me your doing all these things anyway, so I think just keep up the good work and I'm sure they'll be on the road to recovery in no time

Thanks so much for responding. I know you are right; I should not bug him about it, even if my intentions are good. He knows thatI am there for him if he needs it, and I should give him the time and space he needs to get better.

    Thanks again,

Aww, Mary. I agree that just letting him know that you are there for him and love him and appreciate him and want to be able to support him as he does you is all you really can do. opefully his referal goes thru soon and he can start on some meds.

Yeah, I agree. It's frustrating because he was supposed to have an appointment last week, but he missed it because of "traffic". He is so unmotivated to do anything, it's really sad. I do let him know all the things you said (probably too much), so at least he knows that I care. Thanks for responding.

Thanks, yeah, he knows that he needs to go, he just can't get himself motivated to actually go. He has an appointment for 10am on Monday morning, let's hope he keeps it!
