Sorry There wasnt enough space for me to write stuff in the title. I've been looking at government mental health policies (AS you do) and found these 'facts and figures' about mental health in schools. The site is

    http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/wholesc...pmentalhealth/ factsand_figs/

Theres more on the main page. I am very intersted in this kind of stuff (sad really isnt it) But I think more could be done - well everywhere to make mental health known more for its severity, rather than people thinking people make it up. my time at school with mental health problems hasnt been great - and I think more should be done to help. rarrr. Anyway thaught this might be an intersting link for people.

I agree but unfortunately there's nothing we can do, and one of us can, I bow my head to you. Mental health has just not been recognized for its severity, as you say, and many people die because of it too.

Actually I wish I could do something, but I don't think I can.

    hey Iz...

i agree about those CAMHS facts in particular. the psychiatrit i saw at the CAMHS clinic is known throughout our area to be useless, and the doctors avoid referring patients to him as much as possible.... so why is he still practising? it's silly and a pointless waste of their and our time.

i think half the problem is, those WITH mental health issues tend to cover them up (for fear of discrimination/being ridiculed e.t.c) and so the stigma of mental illness continues.

the only way things are going to change is if the mentally disordered patients themselves stop hiding it as if its a crime: then thers more chance of the rest of society treating it like a crime.

growl - its so agrivating isnt it. I wish there was more that I could do. But unfortuantly unless one of us becomes primeminister, or health secretary, theres nothing much we can do!! Oh well. Its nice to have a moan about these things.

I am training to be a teacher in the UK. I am hoping that somehow i will be able to get in to social work through schools. Even if i dont manage that i hope that i will be appraochable so the children can come to me if they have a problem, as i understand where thjey are coming from. The problem is that it is hard to understand a mental illness, in my opinion unless you have suffered one yourself. My main reservation about doing this is that it would probably mean admitting my problems to the staff and children.. Talking about emet in a 'i freak out when people are sick' wouldnt bother me, and i do that now, but i dont know whether i could talk about the panic attacks i have because of it. or the fact i am a self-harmer.
