Really worried about seeing v*******....!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the sight and recently found out that I'm not the only person who goes through this phobia everyday! I'm a little different from everyone else and Im more freaked out about seeing other people getting sick. Getting sick myself really freaks me out too and I avoid it at all cost but the seeing/hearing/smelling just really gets me. Whenever it happens a have an anxiety attack and usually go running out of the room crying...

I'm a a freshmen I high school and today I found out that tomorrow there's going to be a christmas cookie eating contest in front of the whole school. I overheard someone saying how people throw up ever year. So I'm officially panicking... I don't know what I'm going to do and I'm so scared about school tomorrow. I don't have the option of skipping so I need some advice... Please help!!

welcome to the forum..........you sound like alot of us here....

i've gotten to the point where i can sort of handle people being sick as long as it's not a sv.......or anything that is "catchy". no, i don't like to see it....i will look away for sure....or hear it......plug my ears......but atleast it doesnt send me into a panic like it did before....

i think food eating contests are stupid........just stay near the back of the room if you can.......don't watch them...and talk to a friend during it or listen to ipod if you're allowed. it won't make you sick deep breathing helps alot also.......

Do you HAVE to attend the "contest"? It seems silly if you don't have a choice, but if you have to go, just do things that will distract you. Hope it all goes well.

oh i hate them things!! i agree..stay to the back of the room. and if it looks like someone is gonna do it, then excuse yourself and just go for a wander or to the bathroom. just remeber if it does happen just slow deep breaths. just because they're being sick doesnt mean you will. play on your phone or ipod if your allowed to and keep talking to your friends

understand your predicament totally. If you are the one having to eat the cookies, i would only eat what you are comfortable with, dont overdo it incase it makes you sick. Doesnt matter what ppl think, its you that has this phobia and lots of ppl there wont understand that properly. If tht was me, I would go to school but keep busy, trying not to look too much at the overeating ppl there, esp not at the end. Towards the end, I would go elsewhere, talk to other parents or pupils, that way, u are still seen to be present but wont be too overly focused on the likelyhood of those around you throwing up. Im same as you, i cant be in the same room as anyone throwing up, the gagging, smell, sight, noise, everything. I cant cope with those around me or myself throwing up, worse thing in the world.

Welcome to the site. I'm in the same boat as you in the fact that I fear others being sick more than I fear myself being sick. I also hate the smell, sight, noise etc.

I wouldnt like to go to this cookie eating thing either. If you really have to go, sit somewhere out of view or as far away as possible and try to distract yourself maybe by reading a book, listening to music or talking to people about other things.

I think eating contests are so childish, why would anyone want to eat themselves sick in front of a load of people?

I would be freaked out too...I wouldn't go if you have a choice....

I am the same way as you...people getting sick are the worse for me...and the funny thing, some moments of my life I can feel fine...its at night where the anxiety hits me the absolute most. I hate this so much...I wanna cry....I really should try and go back to my psychaitrist and talk about this...its gotten much worse and I'm not sure if he would understand it.
