    Default Would anti-anxiety meds help?

Has anyone ever taken anti-anxiety meds like Xanax in order to bring down their anxiety level regarding vomiting? Do anti-anxiety meds help with things like phobias?

I often wonder if I were to take such medication would I feel less fear about doing it or seeing it.

i have a prescription for valium......given to me for chronic anxiety. it definitely does calm me down for the moment......but i've always been afraid of getting addicted to try to wait until absolutely nothing else works. i know i'm mentally addicted though because on one of my road trips to nyc i realized that i forgot my valium.....i bought some dramamine and took one to calm me and then had my friend in north carolina go to my house and get them.....she fed exed them to me same day......costing over $100........but once i had the bottle in my purse i never had to take one.......definitely mentally addicted....lol

I know that Ativan also acts as an antiemetic so yes, some antianxiety meds also help with nausea. But I think anything that helps calm you down would help??

Are there any medications that raise your anx.iety threshhold in general? So that if it did happen to you or you saw someone doing it, you wouldn't freak out?

I don't think so. That would be a miracle drug and we'd all be on it.

Anti-depressants like Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro, etc. are WONDERFUL for phobias. The problem with this phobia is it is on our minds all the time, and we obsess about it to no end. The SSRI takes about 2 weeks to start working, but it helps control your thoughts and ease your mind. When I am on the correct dose, I totally stop thinking and worrying about v. The only time it crosses my mind is if I actually feel n or encounter it.

If I am not on an SSRI (Zoloft is the best for me) I think about it all day and all night and worry. The SSRI will help control these anxieties and give you peace of mind.

For actual panic or anxiety attacks, Ativan (or Klonopin or Xanax) are fast working. They don't make you stop thinking about the phobia, but they will calm you down fast.

If you can talk to your doc, I would suggest being put on an SSRI like Zoloft AND maybe be prescribed a benzo like Ativan for the tough moments. These meds have changed my life because I can now go all day without worrying and obsessing.

I hope you take my advice. Don't just ask for a benzo (xanax, klonopin.) They are tranquilizers that don't help you in the long run. They are great for working fast in an emergency, but are very addictive and won't change your way of thinking.

    Hope I helped.

I take Stemetil (Proclaperazine) as and when required up to 3 a day which are for anxiety in that dose but do also have a dosage for dealing with and preventing vomiting. Never had to use them for that purpose yet though (fingers crossed / touch wood)

I am on the antidepressant Clomipramine (which works best for me.) My doctor prescribed that in conjunction with clonazepam (a benzodiazepine for acute anxiety). That combination works very well in keeping my OCD/anxieties at pretty tolerable levels. When a sv* comes around and I get really panicked, I increase the clonazepam and it helps ALOT with the anxiety. Just last week, my son v* ON ME. My hands were covered in it and I didn't totally freak out. Normally I would want to run crying nd screaming! I managed to get him cleaned up, washed up and comforted. My husband had it. I did catch it, but I did not get severely nauseated or even come close to v*. My doc is wonderful and he keeps me with a back up supply of Zofran (a powerful antiemetic) that I use sparingly as it is very expensive. Oh and prayer helps ALOT!!

Oooohh!! I want some of that! Too bad I don't have health insurance and cannot find a Dr who will see me without insurance, so I am living without ANY type of prescription meds. I tried 5-HTP to help my mood in general, but it doesn't seem to help my anxiety relating to emet at all. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, norovirus is going around, and my family (all 6 of us) are supposed to be going to a party. I'm a nervous wreck!
