So I am 39 weeks pregnant and was just told that I am severely anemic... Hemoglobin is 8.2. I was told I needed to take Slow Fe (slow release iron pills) 3 times a day (the bottle says one daily!) and I am TERRIFIED because I know that iron pills are notorious for causing nausea and v.
I ate peanut butter toast and then tried to take the pill, but I panicked. The doc says I can't play around with this, that going into labor and losing that much blood could kill me (and now they need to have blood ready in L&D for a transfusion). But I completely panicked. And now I am having panic attacks about taking this darn pill.
Has anyone ever taken the Slow Fe? Is it really better tolerated than regular iron pills? Did it make you n or v? Should I take it with food?
I have the cvs brand 45 mg. Any tips on how to take it?
Someone please tell me. I don't want it sugar coated, if you had a bad experience with it I'd still appreciate the truth.
What the heck do I do?
