When I was younger and I had the flu, I once woke up in the middle of
the night V*. Ever since then, I've been terrified that will
happen again. I don't even know why I'm posting this because I
know that there is nothing that can be done for me, I guess that I was
just hoping that some of you would have suggestions about how I can
prevent this from happening. Thanks for any and all comments.

I have that problem too, but not because of an experience like that. I used to wake up with IBS problems, and then I began worrying so much that I would have IBS problems when I woke up in the middle of the night that I could never go back to sleep. Eventually all of my worrying would make me have another IBS attack! I found some hypnotherapy CD's to listen to at night that really helped me. I'm not sure if they would work in your case, but they are so relaxing, they might help anyone - even if you don't have IBS!

I always worry about waking up and throwing up.

Theres not much you can do but have faith that it won't happen and if it does you'll get through it.

You're not stupid and definitely not alone.
.I just want to feel safe in my own skin. I just want to be happy again. I just want to feel deep in my own world. But I’m so lonely I don’t even want to be with myself. <3

    Hey Mike,

I think most of us here on this board have that same fear. I woke up just last night with that "bad" feeling. I think the only prevention that I have found that helps is counting how many nights I have slept on this earth, 13.140 and how many times I have woken up sick.. 1!!!! The numbers kinda put it into perspective for me.. But still, I have to remind myself constantly. I wish I could tell you how to stop it, we could all use that solution.

crazybeautiful is right you are not stupid and you are not alone. When I go to bed at night I worry that I would wake up and be sick. I just make sure I don't eat past a certain time, listen to my radio, have my light on in the hallway and count. I don't obsess with waking up being sick too much anymore, to me it slows down with time.

    Hiya,

Please dont think that u r alone with this - many emets have the same fear of waking up during the night feeling ill.

It is a scary thought yes, but u need to praise urself for coping with it so far. Furthermore, think how rare this occurance is! As someone else noted, how many nights have u been through without incident? LOADS! The tiny possibly that something could happen does not mean that it will! And even if it did, then uARE strong enough to deal with it fine. Have faith in urself

Wow. Thank you all so much for this strong show of support.
I greatly appreciate it. Unfortunately, I'm still sick and
according to my doctor, I could be in for a long illness. He told
me that many of his patients who have been exhibiting the same symptoms
as I have been taking a few weeks to recover. The thought of
being in this condition for a few weeks is really tugging on my
nerves. I'm especially worried about my school work as the
semester is almost over and I have many exams coming up. I'm
doing what I can to stay strong and your kind words have definitely
    helped. Thank you so much

Have you tried a white noise machine? Mine is my saving grace. It blocks out a lot of the little noises, so I never wake up in the middle of the night. And since I never wake up in the middle of the night, my fear of mid-night v-ing has basically gone away. I highly, highly recommend - best money I have ever spent.
