    Thumbs up ITV's This Morning

Heads up for those in the UK. I'm watching This Morning on ITV right now and they just said that tomorrow morning (Tues 31st) they're featuring someone who was in a magazine recently who has emetophobia really badly.

It was actually the same TV show in which I first heard of emetophobia because they featured it way back in around 2000 or 2001 when I was off school ill watching it.

It's my last day before my new job starts tomorrow so I think I'll tune in! Always good to see emet getting mentioned on mainstream TV...we need more awareness.

Sorry if this seems a silly question, but would this be available on the ITV player online as well or do they not show This Morning on that? Really want to see it!

This Morning has started, the emet interview is on at approx half 11, but obviously it's live so might be abit earlier/later. At the beginning of the show Eamonn admitted he is scared of being sick too! Holly asked what he would do if she were to throw up there and then and he said he'd run and hide in a corner and that he would rather lock himself up for 5 days than be sick and hope it would come out of the other end - i suddenly like Eamonn Homes now! I take back what i said yesterday about him getting on my wick lol.

It's definitely helpful to have a sympathetic presenter. I don't know of any other UK celebrities who are emetophobic - there are bound to be a few more but they're probably in the closet about it. Obviously it's not something people like to discuss but the more people can get it on mainstream TV the better!

Thanks for the heads up! This has made my day, i was out last night for my housemates 21st so feeling a bit on the queasy side today - my own fault i know. Just gonna sit in my bed and watch this now

Charlie Brooker has emetophobia too. He writes a column for the guardian and he mentions it quite a lot actually!

This one is specifically about noro, I find his writing really funny. He also mentions it in a few other articles, like when he talks about being a control freak etc...so he seems pretty genuinely terrified of it like us!

I've seen the charlie brooker article before, it's hilarious how he's written it Frankie from The Satrdays (think that's her name anyway? the one with the short brown hair) has it too I read once.

Is it stupid I'm nearly in tears over this? I'm feeling a bit cruddy anyway this evening, but seeing this on national television has just shocked me. I feel like there's this big 'taboo' subject that now everyone knows about and I can breathe a sigh of relief in a way. I'm not abnormal. I have anxiety. And I have emetophobia. It's horrible, but I don't feel so... ashamed. I hope that doesn't offend anyone, but it's how I personally felt. Thank you This Morning <3

No it's not stupid at all, i think half the pressure of this phobia is that for various reasons we often feel the need to keep it to ourselves which often means added stress trying to cover up or make excuses for why we might be acting in a certain way in a certain situation, i personally find it is so much easier when i am in the commpany of people who know i have emet then if something happens that might set me off in a panic they know what the matter is and i don;t have to come up with lame sounding excuses, or they even try to protect me before something happens like the other week my OH got out the car then suddenly told me not to get out as he had seen some sick on the pavement, whereas if i had been with someone else who didn't know i would have got out and seen it then been in a bit of a state and i wouldn't have been able to say why. Anyhow i am waffling, so you aren;t stupid its just like a big relief when something you have been keeping to yourself can maybe come out in the open and be accepted and not seen as odd. I think we just need a similar interview to take place on an evening programme like the One Show so it is seen by an even wider audience than housewives, the unemployed and the off sick

I actually cried watching this. It hit a raw nerve! especially the bit when she mentioned she knows people who cant have children because of it. I am 25 i would love Children but morning sickness scares me and i would constantly be on edge that my child would be ill or pick up a bug from school i would feel a rubbish mum not being able to support them.

I think it was a good interview and i dont understand why it feels such a taboo when its such a common phobia.

Me neither, it just seems to be open to a level of ridicule that other phobias aren't subjected to - like i said earlier most people i have told have trotted out that annoying line about nobody liking being sick but that doesn't make it a phobia, as if you are over-reacting, so then you feel forced to explain how it affects you to justify it being an actual phobia, and i don't know about anyone else but it just seems to come out sounding quite pathetic whereas with things like heights etc people are so sympathetic even though in my mind fearing something that you can pretty much avoid is no where near in the same league as being afraid of your own body and its functions which you are stuck with 24/7 with no means of escape, and i am by no means belittling other phobias but i think with most of them people only really suffer when actually confronted with their feared thing whereas with us we suffer the constant fear of the thing we are afraid of, we don't only get scared when we are actually being sick, if that makes sense?

The more "normal" people like Eamonn Holmes who openly admit they have emet the better as it will hopefully lead to it being accepted as a mainstream phobia.

wow, thanks guys for mentioning this, i missed it as i was at work.

Really struck a nerve and almost made me tearful! I think of my nephew who i adore yet I won't allow him to stay over at mine just in case he's ill....he's 7 years old and has started to say 'i don't have bacteria, can i have a kiss' (i don't censor my fear in front of the children as much as i should which ashames me) I would do anything to be be different!!

Still, nice to see it has recognition, and i agree with pauline...always hated eamonn...now he's okay! lol
