    Default Alcoholism and Emetaphobia

Doesn't sound like it goes together does it!!!
But I have been living with both for years and have got into the vicious circle now of having to drink to stop me feeling sick, or stop the panic attacks . Can anyone else relate to this

    Have you considered rehab?

Yes, Been through rehab, but the pills they give you make you feel sick, I control my drinking but find I use alcohol a lot more when my panic gets bad or if I feel sick. Don't get me wrong please, I am not a raging alcoholic, just self medicating with it and it is getting me nowhere.

I actually posted about this last week. I don't think it's common with emets as most are worried that drinking too much will make them v* but I can totally relate. Was hitting the wine pretty hard to keep the nausea and panic at bay then feeling worse so doing the same again. I've stopped drinking altogether now and am seeing a psychologist and a counsellor, and I'm on new medication. I already feel loads better and am back working pt again. Think it's definitely worth talking to someone about this (my GP was great). Breaking the cycle's the hardest part, after that it's about dealing with the emet in a different way. It's really early days for me but I do feel like I'm heading in the right direction. Hope you find support on here. PM me if you want to chat more!
