<DIV>UGH! I am in a state of SHOCK!

Apparently 8am this morning, there were multiple shootings with 4 to 6 victims involved that the police know of. 3 towns have confirmed shootings. The town next to us which is about 2-3 miles from me there was a drive by. In the town right after that there was 2 shootings and 1 person is dead.
All of our schools are on lock down in all three towns. In the area where it happened in my town, it started around an elementary school. I know they have one person in custody. They are pretty sure that they are all related. They happened about 7 miles apart from each other. They are not sure if they are just random or drug related. The areas that the shooting have happened in are pretty heavy drug areas. Unfortunately I think all of us have these areas in our towns.

I have had so many phone calls. Some of my friends want to go get their children but cant because the schools are locked down.

This is so unreal because this is not something that has ever happened here. I hope they get them!! It is scrolling on the bottom of my TV and we keep having breaking news interrupt our local programs.

There is something on TV now that they have caught a another person! Lock down has been lifted. Just because one person has been caught in the area does not mean there is just one person. In the other 2 towns the schools are still on lock down.

The sheriff says that he is afraid that this is not an isolated incident and is afraid we are going to see more of this

WOW! You never now...our little town might make in on YOUR news tonight!</DIV>

What a crazy world we live in huh?

It seems like that is all I see on the news anymore... between Brian Nichols, Terri Schiavo, deathafter death of soldiersand all the other crazy news here in the US (for those of you who don't know about Brian or Terri, do a google search to find out more), I can't hardly watch the news anymore.
I have actually been relieved that the Pope's death has been top news lately, not because it's a happy event, but because it's been so positive, good stories, and it's absolutely amazing to see the outpouring of love and faith that people had for him. I mean it's not everyday that some millions of people attend a wake...

    But anyways... it just sucks.

You aren't in Texas are you... I just saw where a high school coach was shot there...

eesh... it's a sad, sad world we live in.

That's awful! How sad and scary! I hope they catch all of those involved and throw away the key! Please keep us posted.

That's terrible. Unfortunately I know what you're going through, it's in disbelief that something like that can happen in your own backyard. I am sure it was all over the news about the latest school shooting in Minnesota on the Indian Reservation... that's about 40 miles from me, and of course you know people who know people.... I hope everything settles down in your town and no one gets hurt.

I know exactly how you feel. I live in Colorado and was a senior in high school when the Columbine shootings happened. Columbine was in the same school district as my school, and I had some friends there. When that happened I was in a total state of shock. We couldn't get in touch with one of our friends that went there until the next day. It was absolutely horrible! Then there were "hit" lists on the internet about which school was going to be next and my school was always at the top of the list. What a horrible way to end your high school career! I had thought of being a teacher, but after that happened I was so scared to step foot in a school that I just couldn't. I can't believe people would do stuff like that!

    2jo2...

I heard about the Minnesota shooting... so terrible. I can still remember sitting glued to the television during the Columbine coverage and just bawling my eyes out for days afterwards watching the news. And I also know what you mean about "knowing someone who knows someone"... My supervisor and friend at work was a student atHeath High School here in Paducah,Kentucky whena student started shooting ata prayer group there... several of those killed were my boss' good friends. He said it's a horrible situation for anyone to go through and I don't doubt that at all.

I will never understand what drives these kids/teens and even adults to go on these killing sprees... they are truly disturbed people and I pray for their souls, but there has to be some other way. It saddens me even more when after commiting these heinous murders they then turn the gun on themselves... Honestly now, I can have respect for someone who commits suicide... but when you take other lives down with you... that's just horrible and wrong, just because you make the decision to end your life doesn't give you the right to take away someone else's.

Oh well... I really hope that everyone in your town is okay...

I'm just curious though... for anyone living in other countries... does this kind of thing ever happen where you live. I tell you what... I love living in America and I wouldn't have it any other way... but to see this kind of thing sickens me...

First off, I am so sorry that you are going through this.

I completely understand. Back in November there was a multiple stabbing incidence at a high schoolin my little tiny podunk Indiana town. You never expect it where you are. You think you are safe because you are in a "smaller" area. The thing that I realized is that it's not that these things don't happen in larger cities, it's that bigger cities are a little jaded to it because they see more crime on a regular basis.

I will pray for the victims and for peace in these situations. I hope that this finds you doing better!
I\'m not completely insane; I\'m just a little bit crazy.

I am watching WJZ TV right now and getting all the details. Even
though I am in Baltimore, I knew it would make the news here. How
awful. It really makes you wonder just how terribly emotionally
messed up one has to be in order to do that. Its also on WBAL.

I think the worst part was that our senior prom was the saturday after the shootings. They closed school for a couple of days, then we only had a couple days to try to get back to normal before prom.We were allso jumpy at prom - looking around the whole time to make sure no one came in with a gun. I was so glad we only had about a month of school left after that!

Wow, sillygirl, that's awful to have to live like that. Those are supposed to be happy times in a kid's life, not having to worry about getting shot. I cannot understand what causes someone to want to do that to people. It ruins so many lives.

Well, apparently they caught the guy. I kinda find it hard to beleive that there is only one person but...I guess time will tell.

There is 2 confirmed dead! This kind of stuff is so disgusting!

To top it off, it started around an elementary school right when kids were going into the school!

I don't remember the story fully now but I think it was 2 summers ago that a sniper was just shooting away at innocent people....did I get that right?

Such a sick world we live in, why do I want to have kids for???

Was that the one in the Washington D.C. area? He would get people at gas stations, right? If I remember correctly, they did catch him and I think he was a kid! Was he just bored or something? What would make a kid want to go shooting people for? Now that I am "all grown up" it amazes me what I used to think was stress. I remember being so "stressed" in high school - sometimes I would give anything to have that simple life back!

The Sniper was in the Washington DC area. It was a father and his son.

Yesterday this guy went up for bond review (they caught him) and he was cussing everyone. The judge told him he would eliminate his speaking priviledges and the guy says "I will eliminate you"

So he is in jail, no bond, no court date and facing the death penalty!

Debbie that is scary! I live in a small town/village there are maybe a thousand if that who live here. There have been 2 scary moments. A father went off the deep end had a gun and said he was going to the school (the only one in town) to get his kids, the police phoned the school and the school was in lock down, curtains closed everything. Police were all over the place, they eventually found him in the woods behind the school!! Last year at this time there was a bomb threat at the arena, a hop, skip and a jump from where I live. They had people leave their homes who lives near it, the streets were closed off. It was a crank call. The best news about living here is that they filmed a movie here, Woody Harelson (sorry can't spell his last name right) and Julianne Moore was here. I got Woody's autograph on my back!! He is a nice person. Came into my friends store and chatted with us for about 15 min. Julianne Moore signed a few autographs but was surrounded by the police, not Woody he was riding that electric 2 wheeler scooter thingy around town.

I remember that movie. This movie is called The Prize Winner of Difiance Ohio, a true story about a woman who has 10 children who wrote commercial jingles for writing contests! I read the book and it was amazing. Of course Woody is the drunken husband!! It was set in the 50's or 60's I think. The had the old cars and when I saw Woody I couldn't believe it was him, the hair dyed, old glasses and old clothes from back then. It was so great seeing all of this take part in my town. Hearing the director say Quiet on the set, rolling. Watching the cars pass and the old men walking on the other side of the street! They filmed part of the moving at a grocery store here, the store still had the old wooden floors so that was appealing. I met the butcher Sal, he lives in Hamilton and has done movies with quite a few stars. That day I will never forget and I can't wait until it is at the movies! It was suppose to be out in the spring/summer but I heard they want to release it in the fall because Ms.Moore has 2 movies coming out and they are releasing them later so she has a chance to win some award! I want it here in the summer, I feel better going to the movies in the summer, plus I can wear my shirt!!
