    Unhappy H Pylori and emetophobia....

    Hello,

So I was suffering with weight loss, gas, bloating, belching, and n* and went to the doctors to discover I have H Pylori. They want to put me on antibiotics that they say will probably make me feel worse before feeling better. Has anyone been had H Pylori or has been through the treatment? I am terrified of getting sick but I can't suffer with this sick feeling in me anymore. It is ruining my life! Any advice?!

I've heard that the antibiotics can be pretty rough for this. I think the best thing you could do is tell your doctor just how important it is to you to not get sick from the meds and ask that you be given a strong anti-emetic. It's my belief we shouldn't have to feel sick from meds when they have something that in general works very well to relieve those symptoms. Also, talk to your pharmacist about how to take the meds (usually they will tell you to take them with a full meal but you'll want to verify that).

Snap I just posted a new topic about h pylori a short time ago, I hadnt seen this one. Im being treated with antibiotics for h pylori at this moment. I started taking them yesterday and if Im honest I dont feel great but there again I didnt feel good beforehand. Im on a combination of 1000mg amoxicillin and 500mg clarithromycin twice a day, as well as 2 lansoprazole a day. Even though a previous test showed up negative for h pylori the dr thinks the meds I was taking (and have been taking for over 2 years) probably masked the result. I have noticed a metallic taste which I didnt have before taking the antibiotics and I do feel very n* but am hoping that if I havent v* yet from them then I wont. I am taking anti-emetics too though these were prescribed for a different reason. I did ask my dr if they would upset my stomach and she said they shouldnt so Ive got to trust her or I'll stop taking them and perhaps never know if this could have cured me.

I had h pylori and took a Z pac (forget the antibiotics in them) but it was definitely a rough week or so! I never v* from them but if i took them on an empty stomach I did get n*. After about 3 days though, you start to feel better!

Thats encouraging. Im only on day 2 (well one and half really cos I took 1 lot yesterday - I didnt have them til 5pm, and both doses today) and Im feeling pretty crap! Had to take today off work and Ive already decided that Im not going in tomorrow either so if I can look forward to feeling better by the 3rd day then hopefully I can go in for friday and saturday.

The doctors did a stomach endoscopy and took biopsies and checked to see if the h pylori caused stomach ulcers which I though FOR SURE I had but didnt. This whole h pylori deal is getting really old and getting worse. Its affecting every aspect of my life...work, school and social life. I appreciate all you answers! I will definitely ask for anti emetics...i didn't know that you could do that.

Didnt go into work again today cos I felt so ill last night but Ive got to say I had a nice lie in and when I woke up I felt so much better. I was starving and I just feel good!! Im on the 3rd day of my treatment and I dont know whether Im being too optimistic but Im hoping and praying that this will finally cure me. Of course I could just be experiencing a good day and after feeling so horrible for a while now I could be reading too much into it but Im enjoying it while it lasts.

I have never been positively diagnosed with h pylori in fact the stool samples and endoscopy were negative for it. However I had been taking lansoprazole meds and this is known to mask the infection. My dr is treating me for it cos my symptoms are the same plus the chance of a false negative result.

My main symptoms are nausea, sometimes its so severe I cant do anything, tenderness of the upper abdomen, a feeling of fullness-like Ive just eaten a huge meal even though I may not have eaten anything for hours. Also lately Ive had foul smelling burps! They taste and smell like sulphur which can be unpleasant and embarrassing. If this treatment doesnt work I have to be referred to a gastroenterologist for further tests. That isnt something I want cos when this first flared up back in January 2009 I went that route. I had an endoscopy, which showed up inflammation of my stomach lining and polyps, an ultrasound and ct scan. When nothing major showed up I was discharged with a half arsed diagnosis of gastritis and IBS. Just over a year ago all my symptoms just seemed to improve and I was more than happy to go with that diagnosis thinking it had just run its course. Now however its back and I feel so let down both by the drs and my own body.
