Her hair was up in a pony tail,
her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school,
and she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,
that she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
if she went to school alone.

    That
was a truly powerful poem, and I thank you, Ontariogirl, for sharing
that for me. Although my father did not die in the September 11th
attack, my Daddy also died a hero, a hero to me and all those around
him. Thank you again for sharing that poem.</font>

Im sitting here with tears in my eyes...I have lived a lfie surrounded by emergency service..my moth has been a police officer for 24 years..my father was a fire fighter and an emt (he has since moved on to other hobbies)....My husband is a fire fighter and an emt... just this past Monday I joined the local FD and will soon take a first responder class...

9-11 was a hellish day that will never be forgotten..my heart aches for thos who lost loved ones on that fateful day.... and I am greatful for all of those who proudly serve as police, fire fighters, and emts...they are ready and waiting to save our lives.

bless those who passed on 9-11 both civilian andand my fallen brothers and sisters who serve as emergency service personell
    And now I\'m glad I didn\'t know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I\'d of had to miss the dance

I absolutely love that poem... it's so beautiful and so true, not just of children who lost their parents in the attacks on September 11, 2001... but also for all the children who've ever lost a parent in war...

I hope you don't mind me sharing this ontariogirl, but it just seemed the perfect time...
I actually heard this on my computer the other day and thought it was beautiful too... it's by Josh Gracin (from American Idol season 2) and the lyrics, just like the poem are really touching. I bolded the one lyric that makes me bawl my eyes out EVERYtime I hear the song...
He used toplay in daddy's uniform, with the stripes across the sleeves.
And he knew when he was all grown up what he was gonna be.
He used to like to ambush every careless cator dog,
that had the nerve to cross the battlelines that he had drawn.
And even though he didn't know what his dad was fighting for,
He was proud to be the other little soldier in this war.
The phone rang in the middle of the night when they called his dad to go.
Kissed him and his mom good-bye and said, God I love you both.
Now I know that it's a lot to ask of such a little man,
But hold the fort and I'll be home as quickly as I can.
And even though he didn't know what his dad was fighting for,
He was proud to be the other little soldier in this war.
A wall could not begin to hold the names of all the kids,
Who gave the greatest sacrifice that any child could give...

It was the first time that he'd ever seen the flag from up that close.
And he watched them as they folded it so careful and so slow.
As they gave it to his mother, he knew what he should do,
He raised his little hand and gave his dad one last salute...

And even though he didn't know what his dad was fighting for,
He was proud to be the other little soldier,
He was proud to be the other little soldier... in this war.

Giving up doesn\'t always mean that we are weak. Sometimes it just means that we are strong enough to let go.
