Things happen in 3's for me I swear...

First - the incident with me being rushed to the ER Saturday night from work with chest pain.

Second - My 6 yr old son had his 2nd seizure Tuesday night.

Third - My mom just called and said that she has a large fibrous tumor in her abdomen. She is scheduled for surgery Sunday. UGH! I am worried. She has had multiple stomach problems. She went to her gastroenterologistWednesday and he said she had an impacted bowel. So she had to go home and use an enema and take magnesium citrate. Well, she went back to him today because if it did not work he was going to put her in the hospital and take it out (sorry tmi) well come to find out she has a large fibroid tumor that is putting pressure on her intestines causing her to not be able to empty her bowel My mom is a sick person. She has emphysema real bad...I am so scared this is cancer. Does anyone know anything about this...Jess???

I am really gonna lose it! I swear...then I hear of stomach viruses circulation AGAIN? Outbreaks?????? Is this true. I know rotavirus has been around but is getting better....what else?

I think you're in a different area of the country than me, so I don't know about oubreaks, but here (ND) I haven't heard of anything since like February.

I'm so sorry you're being deluged with all this bad news. I'll certainly be thinking about you and your family.

Fibroids are quite harmless. They can be miserable to have, but they usually don't pose any danger to your gynecological health. Fibroids are benign -- meaning noncancerous-found onwww.webmd.com I am so sorry, you are going threw soooo much right nowI heard that fibroids are non-cancerous but wanted to confer with web md before telling you. How old is she and is she in hospital now?Your poor mom. And how is your son? Do they(md) know what is causing the seizures? I wish I had some words of great comfort for you, all I can say is I'll say a pray for you and your family I'm sure everything will be just fine once they have the right treatments for them. And luckly-I have'nt heard of any new sv* going around either-you would probably hear of more though being in medical field. How are YOU feeling? Try a nice bath and light some candles, try to remain calm and your strength will be renewed-I know you are strong enough to handle all this!!!Donna

The thing is that they dont know if its in her uterus or not. So we dont know whether its benign or malignant!

Aww Debbie, my heart goes out to you girl. I have been searching the web desperately trying to find some answers for you. The only person that lives in my building is a cop the rest work in factorys, which isn't what we want. Damn why did that OR nurse have to move! I don't see my nurse until next week and that isn't any good to you. My friend who owns the pizza store came back from the doctors and because of fibroids she is going in for a hysterectomy next month I think, only 40yrs.old. I will try to help you the best way I can

Thank you Rhonda, that is so nice of you. I have looked thing up too but I dont know where the tumor is. I hope it is uterine fibroid...they are most of the time benign. I felt really calm yesterday. I have been overwhelmed since she told me about this and have felt nauseous off and on. My anxiety is kicked into HIGH gear and I am thinking all these bad thoughts...the worst about my mom and Conner. I am hoping Conner is ok too! UGH. Life really throws you curve balls. I am so ready for a good period. I hope its coming.

Mom has a CAT scan before her surgery on Sunday. The thing is...she has had one health problem after the other and I feel she is trying to just give up. She is only 53 she will be 54 in August. Her mom died at the age of 52 of cancer (breast that went to the bone) and I guess she thinks she is going to have a short life. She has many problems. Some she could prevent...she really doesnt try to help herself. We used to be best friends but I have kind of isolated myself unwillingly I guess to avoid extra worry and pain...but I worry anyway. I think of her everyday. I asked her if she was ok and if she was worried and she said "why should I be worried?"

And Conner has to have this MRI on top of everything...I am just having to deal with a lot right now. I am an incredibly anxious person. What I would not give to have one night without my kids (and not worry about them when I am away from them) and spend it with my husband...just me and him. We havent had that in SO long!

Sorry to ramble...got caught up in my issues. Thanks for listening.

    Debbie,

I am so sorry I am late. My computer has been down all day and I am just now getting on.

It sounds as if it is possible your mother could have a uterine fibroid. They are usually non-malignant but can cause a lot of problems with excessive bleeding, intestinal issues, abd/pelvic pain, etc. Has your mother seen a GYN yet? It sounds as if it is in the uterus it needs to be removed pretty soon since it is causing an impaction. As you know, impaction can lead to intestinal blockage, and that leads to too many other things! Has your mother had excessive pain or bleeding in that area? Has she ever had problems with fibroids before? She may have to have a complete hysterectomy if it is in her uterus and it is that large.

I certainly hope things go OK for you Debbie. Once again, I apologize for being so late with my response. I just got a brand new computer at work and of course, on the second day, it crashes!

Please give us an update. I am going to be going home here in about an hour, but I will try to log on at some point this weekend. Sometimes it isn't always good being a nurse because you know too much and I'm sure you're feeling that right now!

OMG Jess...thats ok. I was thinking since it is in the pelvic area that it is her uterus. He did not tell her really anything just its in her pelvic area. Her GI doctor has a small xray machine in his office. He checked to see if her intestines were cleared out and they were...but found what heis calling a "fibrous tumor" in herpelvic area. He said that is does need to come out asap because it is putting pressure on her intestines. She saw her gyn 11months ago and I guess it wasnt there then?? Dont know.

Her history is multiple duodenal ulcers. She has had 3 surgeries. The first one was a vagotomy and pyloriplasty. That surgeon must have still been in school because he really messed her up. Her stomach was "paralyzed" after that. Overall she has had a partial gastrectomy. And still has many problems. She has MAJOR delayed gastric emptying and is on many meds. She occasionally has to have an EGD to see whats going on in her tummy and occasionally they find these things called 'bezors'. Sort of like hair balls...I know weird. I had not heard of these until my mom got one. They have to be removed because it causes her stomach not to empty from obstruction.

When she goes in Sunday they are going to do a CAT scan I guess to see exactly where it is and what is involved. She says she doesnt feel any pressure...and she said that she has been moving her bowels but just tiny bits (sorry TMI, but we all do it)

Anyway...thats the story! Thanks for replying Jess

Oh my, Debbie--she does have a lot of stomach issues. I have never heard of a "bezor"--what causes that? Hopefully the firbroid is in the uterus and it can be removed without difficulty. It is good that she has seen a GYN within the year. A lot of people let those fibroids go without treatment and that is when they can turn malignant.

Sorry to hear about Connor, too. I hope they can figure out what is causing his seizures. You have got a lot stress on you right now. Is your job situation any better?

Well, I hope you have a good weekend. Like I said, I'll probably check back on here tomorrow.

Jess, I had no idea that fibroid tumors can turn malignant!! My friend has cysts (ultrasound) on her ovaries etc, she has been bleeding for a straight month in a half, she saw the doctor and of course her iron is low, but he said she needs a partial hysterectomy, she sees the doctor who will be performing that on May 16th and than schedule a date for surgery, she is 40. How do you know the difference between a cyst and a fibroid tumor???

Sorry Debbie, I needed to ask that question. How are you doing? Sorry that I didn't get on, Tyler was on this computer tonight while I helped out at my friends store and I got home late. I will be on in the morning and we will chat about this on msn.

I am doing ok. Mom is having a CAT scan on Sunday...not surgery. Surgery will be sometime in the week.

I am still worried sick about Conner. I know there is nothing I can do, but I just keep thinking the very worst! I hope these thoughts get better soon!

How is Conner doing?? I wish I could reach through here and give you a big hug, I think you are being incredibly strong!!! As I've mentioned before, last year when Haley was so sick and she would stop breathing, I thought I was going to die with wondering what was wrong with her, I actually almost threw up in the hospital one morning!!! You sound incredibly calm, just hang in there!!

    Rhonda,

Cysts are most commonly seen on the ovaries while fibroids are usually seen in the uterus. The symptoms can be similar. Both can cause painful cramping and heavy bleeding. An ultrasound is the only definite diagnosis. One danger that you can have with cysts is that they can rupture and cause infection in your pelvic region. My sister-in-law just had one to rupture about a month ago. She had no idea it was there but was having severe right side pain and *v*. She is pretty tolerant of pain and did not go to the ER. She did see her OB/GYN the next day and an ultrasound diagnosed her with a ruptured ovarian cyst. I know a lot about cysts, too. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome, so I have many small cysts on my ovaries due to several years of not ovulating. Fortunately I don't have a lot of pain or heavy bleeding associated with it--my periods are just irregular. I am confidant that I will probably be in the same position your friend is in when I am 40. I have already had one D&C and I am only 25. I imagine by the time I am 40 I will be looking at a hysterectomy.

Debbie--hope your mom and Connor are doing alright. Please give us an update!

Thanks Jess, I keep having cysts on my right ovary and the pain can be intense especially when I am having my period. The pain can be worse than labor. One time it felt like I peed myself but it was brownish colour. It was a cyst that broke. I have had numerous ultrasounds especially the one the go inside the vagina (sorry for being graphic). Thanks for answering my question!

I had a cyst on my right ovary that ruptured when I was 12 years old. It was the size of a grapefruit and they estimated that it took about 2 years to grow. (I had started my period when I was 10 and this happened when I was 12). It destroyed my ovary as well as my fallopian tube. Needless to say I only have 1 ovary and 1 tube. But it works fine. I have 3 children. I did almost bleed to death though. It was an emergency exploratory surgery because they could not find the problem. I guess technology wasnt the greatest back them.

    Jess:

I willfind out today about my mom. I had a BAD dream that it was bad news about my mom. Hope its not true. I am praying that Conner is ok...He had a CAT scan in January that showed no masses or bleeds. Hopefully that hasnt changed...what do you think? Everything has been ok so far...his neuro tests ok. I am hoping. UGH this is SO hard!!

Sometimes dreams are just a reflection of our worries. I had to have a biopsy done a month ago and the week leading up to it I had TWO cancer dreams. It really freaked me out but my test came back fine.

I had to have a hysterectomy last Aug. due to endometriosis and PCOS. I had my left ovary and tube removed when I was 20. I had a huge cyst that had tourqued? twisted my ovary, you wanna talk about painful, OMG, I suffered for 8 months before I had the LSO. My cysts and endo was actually discovered by my general surgeon who did my gallbladder surgery. I was having trouble, but hadnt been to my gyno doc yet, so of course, no lap. had be done. The hyst. was hard to go through, but I am glad it was done. So Debbie, you and I are both proof that you can get pregnant with only one ovary. (What I wouldnt give to have one of my own, getting those hormones regulated has been the worst part!)

Debbie, please keep us posted on Conner and your mom. I hope everything will be ok, VERY SOON!!!!
