Hello All,

Bare with me here. Realy long stressfull day. First off, I made the mistake of telling these jerks at my work that I am afraid to V. This was a while ago. Most of them think I am weird now I am sure. So keep that in mind as I am telling this story. Well some guy at my work got "food poisoning" on sat. So he thinks. He says he was sick all night that night. He said he couldnt even hold in water (I hate when people say that). His girlfriend works at the same place. She went home sick today. So thats 2-3days since he was sick, so it couldnt be food poisoning. So I am freaking out at work already during my lunch peroid. I come back from lunch and this ass tells me that one of my other coworkers just ran to the bathroom to v with a freaking smile on his face. (which she did, but didnt actualy v, she thought she was) She worked the rest of the day and said she felt ok. These people were so excited to tell me about it. They wanted to see my reaction. I dont get it. I am nice to everyone. Do they not realize how serious this is? I have almost killed myself because of it. When they told me I kept my cool. I almost acted like I didnt hear what they said. People are ridiculous some times. I am glad I didnt loose it infront of them! It would have made it worse. Needless to say I am worrying my life away like an idoit thinking I am going to get sick from the couple at my work. I didnt even work out today cause I thought I was going to catch it, and v at the gym. How much more life am I going to waste? Thanks for listening. I feel like I should put a tiny violin under this post. I feel like such a baby!

Don't be sick of yourself. People are just a**holes, and they don't understand what we go through. You know he probably didn't even v* over the weekend, he probably just said that to get a reaction out of you. I know it sucks, but you dealt with it very well, and you should be proud of that. I am sorry that you had to go through that, but other people really don't understand how scary it is for us. I just always remember that when I was working, we had this guy who was deathly afraid of spiders. Well, one of the other guys thought it would be funny to put a rather large spider in a paper bag. They put the bad in his locker and wrote his name on it. Well when he got to work, he opened the bag, screamed then fainted. After that no one ever messed with him again. People think its funny, and they don't realize how a fear can really affect someone. Just try and blow them off, or act like it didn't bother you. If they are too immature, then they are not worth it. Please don't let this get you down, you can get past it.

Please don't be hard on yourself. This guy sounds like a total ass! It's really sad that people feel they have to make fun of other people's short comings. Sadly, no these idiots do not realize how serious it is. When you say the word phobia to someone who does not have one themselves, I think they assosiate it with something that they have and believe to be a phobia. Does that make sense? I don't think I worded it very well. People just don't understand the obsessing and the panic that comes along with having a true phobia. That doesn't excuse the asshole, but please don't be hard on yourself.

Don't feel like a baby! It takes a lot of strength for each of us to get through each day. We are much stronger than many people I know. Anyway.. I am sorry that you had to deal with that today.

I have had emet since I was about 10 or 11, but it has gotten worse in the past year or so. I was never really thinking about it daily or everytime I ate, but like I said, for the past year its been on my mind all the time. But I will say, in the past couple weeks it's been better. I haven't had a panic attack lately, and when I do feel sick, I just lye down until it passes. I think alot of my emet has to do with not eating. I can't tell the difference anymore between hunger and nausea. It sucks, but lately when I feel sick I eat, and 9 out of 10 times I feel better. How about you have you had emet for a long time?

    Hi Michele,

I have had my emet as long as remember. My earliest memory of being afraid was when I was 5. Mine too had been severe in the last year. I too never worreid everytime I ate. Now I can barley eat anything unless I am positive nobody else has touched it. I feel like if I go out to eat I am will get sick for sure. I used to eat at resturaunts and fast food places all the time. I limit myself from something new everyday it seems. If I hear someone get sick from chicken, I wont eat chicken anymore. Its bizzare. Right now I am at my moms. Ususaly I am in bed and asleep by now. I am realy freaked out tonight. I am afraid to go to sleep. I know this is common for emet but not for me typicaly. I dont want to be alone. I keep hearing my stomach rumble and I feel doomed. Sorry for rambling!

Have you eaten lately? Maybe that is why your stomach is rumbling.

But I am like you too. I completely stopped eating out, and I don't eat chicken anymore. Ok, so I lied, I went out to eat for the first time in a year yesterday and I had chicken. And I didn't get sick. But I was really depressed for a long time, and I like you can't be alone when I feel sick. But lately I have been feeling much better about myself and making myself try and think postive.

Again, I am sorry that you are going through this it really sucks. Do you have any anti-nausea medication?? Or if you are having trouble sleeping, trying taking abenedryl. It makes you sleeply, and its anti-nausea medication.

Good luck I hope you feel better, and I am sure you will be fine.

People who tease dont understand how uncomfortable it makes you feel, I have someone who throws it in my face like everyday, joking about *v. I think they think its just lightening you up and the whole situation, they dont understand that, at least for me, it builds up some anxiety and fears towards that person, especially since the person who does it to me wants to CHASE me around with *v. I would just let them know how disrespectful theyre being. To me, chasing me around with cat *v is worse than stabbing me in the arm, and ive had that happen before too. Alot of what it comes down to, especially with the anxiety, is control, and you cant control other people, but you can control yourself and what you say or walk away from.

You are not a baby and don't need to be sick of yourself! That is rude and obnoxious behavior! I know that nonemets don't fear it and can't completely understand however, I am not afraid of dogs and if someone told me they are I would not keep saying "oh look here comes a dog" or "I'm gonna bring my dog in tomorrow" it just comes down to human kindness and compassion. Apparently you work w/ soem really immature little sh**'s! OK sorry, just makes me mad. Anyhow, I'm sorry your'e having a rough day. I'm sure your'e keeping safe and clean and therefore cutting your chances greatly of catching anything. But I do know how scary it is too and insensitive coworkers doesnt' help. Let us know how your'e doing, I hope you feel better aboutt his soon.

Platnuimcherry, I can't believe someone chased you around w/ cat v* EWWW! How did you keep from smacking someone? Cat v* doesn't bother me and I still think its nasty.Edited by: SimplyMe

First off, whats up with these people coming to work sick? That would bug the h**l out of me. Why cant people stay home, who really wants to be at work and have people doing that, regardless of emet. Please try not to let these people at work get to you, they just dont understand your phobia. (Dont get me wrong, I am not trying to take up for them.) Im just sorry that you are having to put up with this kinda crap at work. Dont feel like a baby for freaking out, this guy is a total jerk!!!!

Yeah, I am freaking out. He was near me all day yesterday. I have two more weeks to work here. I want to leave and not come back. I am so afraid I have been exposed. I cant beleive these viruses. They just dont quit. I am so annoyed. I feel like making something up and telling work I have to leave Thu and Fri for an emergency. I feel like everyone is doomed in this office. I am just waiting for the symptoms to start. I feel like I am not ready to face this. I dont think a stomach virus cares if I am ready. I dont know what to do. I am in bad shape. I dont feel like I can go on living right now. It scared me that I am thinking this way. I feel so surounded by this bug. So far thats 3 people that have had it. He will be contagious for like 2-3 days too. And I know he will work thur, and fri. I cant handle this. I realy cant handle this. What the heck is going on?. I feel crazy. Help SOS SOS

But like you said, the girlfriend only had d*. So even if you do get it, doesn't mean you'll v*. Just pratice good hygenie. Wash your hands good, and maybe bring in or go out and buy some lysol and spray down your area. I used to do that when I worked all the time. I am sorry that you are going through this, but you got to think the reason why his girlfriend got sick was because they were probably kissing and stuff, and I am sure your not doing that with anyone at work. Please try not and worry. I know it's very difficult, but if you take proper precauctions, your chance of catching anything are very slim.

You asked me what I have been doing differently? Well, I really just changed my attitude and outlook on life. I have never been to a theripist, or gone on medication, I would of liked to, but I don't have insurance, and I have no job right now, so I can't afford it. I was just really depressed, I got laid off, then I got sick, had to have surgery, my boyfriend was cheating on me. It was all bad. I would sit at home in bed do nothing, I wouldn't even eat. Then I just decided one day, enough is enough. Nothing will get better unless I do something about it. Sure I still have emet, but I have been living with it. I went out and applied for jobs, now I am going through my backround check, and I have my second interview on Saturday (yea!!). I have been going out with friends, I just met a guy, and I am even going out to lunch with him again today!! I just figure, hey, if I am going to get food poisoning, then I am going to get it. I just want to live normal again. I let emet consume my life for too long, and I decided that you only live once, and I am not going to waste every minute thinking about v*. I hate it as it is, and why let something you hate ruin your life? I still get nausous, and I am still scared, but I am just trying my hardest to deal with it calmly when I do feel sick. It's hard, but I feel so much better about myself and my situation.

Sorry for rambling. But, I hope you feel better, and please try not and worry, we are here to help u get through this.

I would not let these a**holes bother me. Their behavior is
bully-like in every way. If you know anything about bullies
    - they are miserable. They make fun of others, because they feel
inadequate. What a sad way to be.

You are an emet. So what? That does not define who you
are. However, their behavior surely defines them as narrow-minded
bullies who don't have an empathetic bone in their bodies. Any
why would you care what such weak individuals think of you?
Surely, not enough to kill yourself over. If anything, pity them
for they are pitiful people. Then hold your head up high.

    Stella
