    Default Laproscopic Nissen Fundoplication!

Hey guys!! I am fairly new here, but wanted to get some opinions. I am going to see my doctor next week and I am flat out going to do everything in my power to force him to give me this procedure. It is a Fundoplication surgery. It basically makes it so you will never have heartburn, acid reflux, or V*ING ever again! It makes it impossible to v*. Imagine! Imagine the lives we could be living if we never, EVER had to worry about it again....walking around, knowing that it just CAN'T happen.

This is a surgery that I feel I require in order to get on with my life. My emet is SO bad that I can barely leave my bedroom. Thoughts of suicide often (although, deep down, I know I'd never kill myself), basically, I just feel like, if v*ing will always be a part of our bodies, then I don't want to live in such a world. If someplace placed Norwalk virus and a gun in front of me, and made me choose....I would surely take the gun. I hope that my doctor will feel like this surgery is necessary for my quality of life as I cannot work or finish my degree.

Has anyone heard of this? Good things, bad things? Also, I am reading about various drugs (injection and pills) that prevent it as well. I am still patiently waiting for the release of the Noro vaccine!! Anyway, any opinions would be great!!

Honestly, unless you have really terrible reflux, and I'm not sure what else, but certainly not for the anxiety. I know a LOT of members are confined to their houses by this phobia. Your doctor wil most likely tell you ways to treat your anxiety rather than a band aid cure like this surgery. You'd still have anxiety. It'd manifest in other ways.

There have actually been a few threads on this. I don't think it would be a good idea because you can still have nausea. Also, you cannot vomit, but you CAN dry heave and retch, which is far more painful and scary in my opinion. It's just like vomiting, but nothing comes up.

As an emetophobe, our problem isn't actually vomiting, it's the anxiety we feel about vomiting. No doubt that the average emet would still be nervous if they felt nauseated after the procedure. They would most likely be anxious that it didn't work, and they might V anyway.

It's not a 100% guarantee that you'll never v* again. "Vomiting is often difficult or even impossible with a fundoplication. In some cases, the purpose of this operation is to correct excessive vomiting. However, when its purpose is to reduce gastric reflux, difficulty in vomiting may be an undesired outcome. Initially, vomiting is impossible; however, small amounts of vomit may be produced after the wrap settles over time, and in extreme cases such as alcohol poisoning or food poisoning, the patient may be able to vomit freely." There are so many side effects and potential complications of a surgery that you likely don't even qualify for. Dumping syndrome, scarring, nerve damage, etc
