I have just been to see my doctor for the results of a cholesterol test, & despite trying to control my levels with diet, my cholesterol is still very high. The doctor says that this may be partly genetic, & that really p*sses me off! I feel that my parents really did the dirty on me by giving me such lousy genes, & if I could have chosen my parents, I definitely would`nt have wanted to be born to them, & not just because of their genes. They were`nt great parents. Another thing that I now have to deal with thanks to them is that I`ve had to accept a prescription for statins, Simvastin, it`s called, & as I`ve never taken these drugs before, I don`t know what to expect in the way of side effects, I think you can guess what I`m talking about. I`m wondering if any other members on this site have taken this drug, & if they had any unpleasent side effects. I`ll be taking the first tablet tonight, & I`m dreading it, but I suppose it`s better than getting heart disease!

My father was on cholesterol meds for a long time, as far as I know, he still is, and he had no side effects at all. I kind of know how you feel. I have a genetic tendency towards being overweight because of him, it feels a bit unfair. But I'm just taking the cards I'm dealt and do all I can to change things. Both my parents take these meds. Neither have any problems.

Well, I`ve been taking the pills for 3 days now without any problems, I know that`s not long, but its long enough for me to fell more confident that I`ll be ok. The only thing was that everytime I ate anything over the weekend, I felt drowsy & fell asleep. I don`t know if that was due to the medication, or the hot weather that we had over the weekend.

Possibly a mixture of both. I get really sleepy when I start new meds because my body has to get used to them. Glad you're feeling okay on them!
