i just came home from the doctors and the nurse who knows of my phobia decides to tell me that she was so sick last night sick enough that she hadto take a shower afterwards. she then proceeded to prove to me that she was all better by rubbing her hands all over my arms and hands saying dont be dumb i wont catch anything from her because she is a clean person. she might be right but why why why would she give me that information! ignorance is bliss! she also kept rubbing her stomach during the exam and she looked awful. im so stressed......

Im sure you will be fine. People coming into work sick like that are why outbreaks occur.

Wait a minute.... She rubed your arms and hands on purpose????? I would be furious. What in the fuck is wrong with this woman? I'm sure if you washed your hands after this you will be fine but give me a break. Doesnt seem very perfessional of her at all. Grrrrr. I'm mad FOR you. LOL

yes on purpose! weve been going there for more than a decade but it doesnt give her the right. needless to say i have felt like shit all day.

That's a really horrible thing to do to you. I do think you'll be fine as it sounds like she is conscious of hand-hygiene, and I am sure you also washed your hands before eating after it happened. But I find that a very unpleasant thing that she did xxx

This is a perfect example of how well-meaning people try to "help" us emets. It sounds like she rubbed her hands all over you to prove to you that your fear is unfounded. She's probably thinking that once you see that you don't get sick even after someone who was sick did that, your fear will lessen. Unfortunately, people like her don't understand emetophobia and really don't know the damage they do when they try to "help" like that. Having said that, I'm sure you'll be fine. Her hands are clean and even if they weren't, you're not going to catch a stomach bug by "it" being on your skin, it has to get inside you, so unless you're going to lick your arms, you'll be fine.

I do would have shoved her, too. I have no qualms about that!! I once shoved a doc who was trying to swab the back of my throat to test for strep. It was a reflex, I swear. He shoved it back too hard and BOOM. Pushed him. They had to get my mom to come back to hold me down. I was 19. Yeah...

yeah im sort of a push over when it comes to doctors. so today im super anxious. today is the last day i have to worry about it right? it happened on wednsday . i also have lots of acid reflux. is that a symptom? or could it be associated with anxiety/ stress?

Wow! that is so unnnnnnessary. i would have been so mad. I mean maybe she is trying to help you have less of a phobia because if you don't get it (which you prob won't) then you will see that its not AS contagious as you thought it was.. maybe it was a small life lesson.
