I'm going to be driving up to Disney World this weekend and I'm panicking because I have had friends who have gotten food poisening from the restuarants in that area. I know it's a little extreme, but still. And i know if i don't go on rides like Space Mountain that I'll let someone down. Does anyone have some advice?

I went last May. I don't do rides but even though I was also a little anxious-we had a blast. I was just careful what and where I ate. Breakfast-we mostly had cereal- a couple of charector breakfasts and they were good. Lunch was usually those big turkey legs they sell and dinner-once at the Teppanaki(sp?) in Epcots Japan-very good and made right in front of us. We also found an Outback and TGI Fridays-no food probs here. But don't EVER feel pressured about not going on rides. You have to do what's best for YOU! I also bought the Unofficial Disney guide book-so that I could be prepared BEFORE we even left and I knew which rides I was willing to go on.

You'd be surprised at how well-prepared the food at Disney actually is.
I go a minimum of once yearly and have never had a problem there - and
the food is generally very good. Sooo many restuarants hidden
throughout the parks, and if you aren't feeling brave, there's every
chain restaurant imaginable just outside the gates on 192. Disney's
restaurants are well-oiled machines (they have to be considering the
number of customers) - I'd feel safer there than many other
    places.

Oh! How lucky you are to be able to go to DisneyWorld! Can I come with?? LOL! I wish I had some advice to add to swiffette and Dave, but they pretty much said everything I wanted to say. I am sorry I didn't see this topic earlier. I was caught up in all the update posts! LOL! Anyhow, like Dave said, there are probably lots offood chains around the theme park that you are familiar with and can eat in comfortably. As for the rides, don't worry about it. Don't go on anything you don't want to go on. I've been with people who don't likeSpace-Mountain typerides or roller coasters and prefer to sit them out. No problem. Don't worry about letting others down. You do what you have to do, like swifette said. And remember, have fun!!! I wish I were in your shoes right now! How fun it would be to go to DisneyWorld! I hear there is a big celebration going on to celebrate the 50 year anniversary or something?

Anyhow, have a great time, and tell us how it went! I am sure you'll be back here on Monday telling us how great the trip was and that you were worried for no reason!

By the way, Space Mountain isn't so bad...it's mostly dark. That's all I really remember! Edited by: NCsmile6

Oh, you are so lucky to be getting to go to Disney World! I have been 8 times and I want to go back again. I've been begging my husband to take me back--we went there on our honeymoon and stayed at the Grand Floridian--so romantic! I live in NC, so it is a pretty long drive from where I live.

I did get sick at Disney World one time when I was 12, but it wasn't food poisoning, it was a virus. It was the worst sick I have ever been, but it had nothing to do with the food that I ate. Back then, I wasn't as conscious about hand-washing and stuff, so I touched all of the handrailings without any handwashing. My dad talked to someone at the hotel we were staying at and they said a lot of people had been sick with the same thing. Since then, I try not to touch any handrails and I always keep hand sanitizer or wipes with me to use.

I hate roller coasters, but Space Mountain isn't that bad at all. It is in the dark and it is very fast, but it isn't that scary. I would definitely ride it again. I will ride most anything at Disney except for Tower of Terror( I rode it once and was scared to death) and Splash Mountain.

Please don't worry and try to have a good time! I would trade places with you in a minute!

I am so jealous!! I absolutely love DIsney World - it's my favorite place on earth! I worked there one summer, on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and honestly there wasn't that much v* for a roller coaster. I think during the whole summer I only encountered about 5-10 times. Surprisingly, the ride that has the most v* is the Haunted Mansion. Kids get so scared they work themselves up so much and v*. There is a new ride there called Mission:Space which similuates a space shuttle. I hear that one gets a lotof people sick. I have been on every other ride there and never got sick from them. Including the Tower of Terror and Rock'n Rollercoaster.

As far as the food goes, I wouldn't worry about it. A place like Disney World cannot afford to have a reputation of giving people food poisoning so they have to be extra careful. If you are still nervous, just stay away from the more common food poisoning foods like chicken. Have a great time! I wish I could go, but we are going to Disneyland next month so that should be fun too!

I want to take our children to Disney World so bad, but I am afraid of them getting a virus or food posioning while we are there. I went many times as a child and never got sick though. I know we will end up going, but I will be a nervous wreck the whole time.

Sillygirl--I'm shocked that the Haunted Mansion has the most *v*! It is such a fun ride, but I guess for a small child that it would be scary. I find it hard to believe that even Big Thunder Mountain Railroad would have anyone *v*. It isn't a bad roller coaster at all!

I probably only saw two or three v* on or after the ride. Surprisingly, a lot of it happened in line. I think heat exhaustion is actually what causes a lot of it. Make sure you drink a lot of water!

I live in Florida too! By Orlando as a matter of fact. Small world (get it lol) Anyhow I agree w/Dave that the food is well prepared. I think they probably have pretty high standards since they are so huge and depend so much on their rep and people coming there. I think you'll be fine! I think it's been said on here before but it seems an emet staple of "safe" take out food is grilled cheese sandwiches, when in doubt go for the grilled cheese! Enjoy your weekend! I hope it doesn't rain too but w/ this stupid tropical crapola I'm afraid it might but I dont' think it shoudl be too bad??? Anyhow have fun, sorry for rambling!

Neha, and enyone else who ever goes to disney or wants to, let me know when/if you go and if ya want we can meet up!!!

You'll be fine when you go. Just don't go on anything you don't want to. I hope the weather is good for you. I live in southwest Florida (Sarasota, FL), and it's raining right now b/c of the tropical storm in the Gulf. No hurricanes. Just a tropical storm. We have a flood warning too. Who lives in FL again? I went to Disney a lot growing up, but I haven't been there since my high school band trip in '96. I'm sure it's changed a lot since then. I don't think they even had the animal park then! Anyway, one time I went, I did see a lot of v*, but it was super hot, and I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. When in doubt, eat hot pretzels or something from a bakery. I never got sick there. You should be fine. Have fun!

Wow... food poisoning? At Disney World?

I guess it can happen anywhere, but I am just kind of surprised. It was probably from bacteria already in the food before they got it from wherever Disney World gets meat or other stuff from. I could never think of the people there, esp. with the amount of people they get, not handling food properly. It could happen, I guess, though. Not all restaurant workers are as responsible as they should be.

Anyways, I know I am late, but let us know how your trip went. I hope it goes well.

I have never been to Disney World, but I live in Southern California and go to Disneyland all the time. It rocks. I have never seen any emesis there, so I cannot think that much emesis would be found in Disney World either, unless it is the heat, because many Disney rides are not too wild and a lot are oriented so that the whole family can enjoy them.

Oh yeah. Also, I have went on Space Mountain here in California, and I think the one in Flordia is designed similarly, and it really is not that bad. However, I get a little dizzy on that ride, but that is all. And it seems fast, but it, at least the one in CA, goes 28 MPH. And it is dark, which makes it seem scarier.

Again, I am aware I am writing this late.
