    Default Copper IUD Fear

So I've booked an appointment to have a copper IUD put in and I was very excited until I started the dreaded Googling. My doctor tried to put it in a couple of weeks ago and wasn't successful so she gave me another one for free and referred me to a gynecologist. The pain was really bad during but when I got home I started Googling and people were saying that after it's inserted they got extremely dizzy and nauseous. Now I'm freaking out and the appointment is getting closer and closer. I really want to get off the pill as I'm horrible at taking it on time and I don't like the horomones involved. I refuse to get my tubes tied as I don't like the idea of surgery or being put under because people say they get sick from the anasthesia when they wake up. The copper IUD is my best option and I like that it last 10 years. Has anyone had one put in and were you dizzy? Please help calm my fears!!!

My turn to,reply to,you!! I have the Mirina coil (think that's what its called) and had NO dizziness or nausea, or such like, even tho Dr. did say these were common side effects as your body gets used to the coil...I must admit the benefits are amazing!! No period for last 3 years!! Xx

That's good news!! I fear I'll panic right on the table as she's putting it in!! I should really stop Googling but I can't help it. I'm a little comforted that it's a gynecologist putting it in because at least she's very experienced with this sort of thing and she probably knows what she's doing. Was the pain really bad when she inserted it?

I never had a moment's trouble with the copper IUD. No nausea at all; just a bit of pain when it first goes in, then it was totally smooth sailing. I have no idea why nausea would be listed as a side effect as there are no hormones involved. Go for it!

I have a mirena, got it installed last year. I didn't get any nausea, but unfortunately it was a resident with little to no experience who ended up installing mine and she had trouble inserting it and it was very uncomfortable, enough that I almost fainted right after (seeing bright lights, buzzing in ears, dizzy). The resident freaked out that I was about to faint much more than I did, I actually had to calm her down while I was trying to lie down to get some blood back into my head. But I didn't get nausea, though. That was my second time with an IUD, the first time the gynecologist was experienced and it went very very well with barely any discomfort. Also, when you read bad reviews on the internet, keep in mind that it's always going to be the dissatisfied customers who'll post, not the ones who had a good experience. So for everyone who posts saying "oh God, had such a bad experience, and nausea" there might be hundred who did just fine and had nothing and didn't feel the point to post about their good experience.

I Just got mine a couple months ago. It did hurt and I felt weird knowing there was something in there but i had no nausea not even close. The only side effect I have is stronger cramping during my period. you will be fine try not to worry, you will feel so much relief knowing you are safe from getting pregnant!

Love my Paragard (copper IUD). Had it inserted in June of this year and wouldn't change it for the world. Insertion was a breeze! I had it inserted at Planned Parenthood because I trusted the providers more than a regular OBGYN office because over 98% of what PP does is work with birth control. They probably insert 50 a day (lol). I had no discomfort (a small cramp, not even uncomfortable) nor dizziness when inserted. I had zero nausea. When I had the Mirena placed (I had issues with cysts, which I still do, but the Mirena made it worse, so I had it removed), I had a few hot flashes upon insertion (it was more painful, was placed by a provider in an OB office) so I asked for a cool, wet napkin to place on the back of my neck. Worked wonders.

You'll be fine. Enjoy your new IUD!
