Hi,
I'm looking to formulate a plan with my therapist. I have three areas I think I'm going to try to focus on, and I wondered if you could offer any tips, insights, resources to use, etc. on them:
1) Exposure therapy - using hierarchy. I've created several different hierarchies over the years and never got anywhere with them. Different therapists had different recommendations, I was part of that Australian research study that seemed to have a different strategy when working on a hierarchy too - so I'm starting again. I just need something simple. Anyone care to share theirs, or offer suggestions/advice?
2) Within my hierarchy, my therapist suggested incorporating virtual reality websites into my treatment. He suggested I google around to see what I can find. I did a little research and found there are some therapists that use virtual reality for treating phobias. I emailed one and asked for suggestions, and she said unfortunately she doesn't know of any virutal reality sites for emetophobes and just uses youtube. I'm fine with that, I just wanted to explore all avenues first. Does anyone know of any virtual reality resources, or is there a series of youtube videos that has been helpful (as far as taking you through the levels and not just starting out with an all out panic-inducing video!)
3) I read on here about someone that used this treatment plan http://www.fearintopower.com/ and it sounded interesting since I have a LOT of old memories that currently triggers a fear response all the time. I remember everything about every illness, every family member's illness, etc and I have so many negative feelings associated with. I thought if I could learn how to start undoing those it might help. So I ordered the MP3's to see if that would help teach me how to do that. My therapist suggested I just make a list of my negative thoughts and then spin them to a positive thought to try and neutralize the feeling. (Sounds like there should be more to it than that - so I ordered the MP3's for help!) Has anyone done this, or something like this, and found it helpful? Any direction you can provide?
Thanks for listening!
