    Default Prevention Techniques

**May be kind of graphic for some**

Okay everyone, what prevention techniques have you used to prevent yourself from vomiting? I'm not really talking meds here necessarily. For instance, you know that moment before, when you start to salivate? For me, if I do not swallow that, I don't get sick. That being said, that is something EXTREMELY hard not to do because of how much my mouth will water. Maybe it's that, and just sheer willpower.

    What about you guys/gals?

When I get that "OMG" moment, I take a DEEEEPPPP breath thru my nose and tell myself "I WILL NOT GET SICK". Seems to have worked for 12 years for me.

I sorta do the same thing as Jelly, but I walk around too. Sitting still just doesn't do it!

That works fairly well with my migraines, I will spit out any saliva and that can most often prevent the dry heaves when I get to that point. Other than that, I've used the accupressure points to prevent v* from a bad hangover (vodka is evil) and it worked a few times.

Cynna, you post a really good question. How to deal with it is a very good topic and is most definitely something I haven't yet figured out. I mean, the times that I've actually done it prove to me (in my opinion only) that it wasn't as bad as I imagined it to be. I mean, don't get me wrong. It's NOT pleasant but, my mind made it out to be so much worse.

I believe I've determined that my biggest issue with myself vomiting is the whole loss of control deal. I think if the urge hit and I did it but could stop it at anytime, that it would make it a lot easier.

Thanks Doug. I've actually read this before and didn't know that you had written it. Thanks for sharing it and for reminding me of it. I had forgotten about it. Glad to also meet another guy on here! Seems (and I think it's a fact) that more women suffer from emetophobia than men do.

On an evening I watch my favorite films or documentaries in bed, gives me something to focus on until I fall asleep.. About 90% of the time I fall asleep with my computer screen on.

I find that using willpower first, then anti emetics, & it gets easier with practice, & staying completely still, also pretending that my mother is still alive, & would be very angry with me for making a mess.
