Hi everyone! I'm new around here - had emetophobia for I'd say 7 years now.
My roommate came home last Wednesday saying that some of the babies in the preschool she works at seemed to have sv*. From that moment on, I was pretty much like stay away from me! Thursday and Friday she came home saying more kids were sick, and a coworker too.
Saturday she was in her room all day so in the afternoon I went in to see what was wrong, and she wasn't feeling well. She ended up getting sick that night, from around 6:30pm to 3:30 Sunday AM. Although, I do think she may have made it worse for herself because she was taking hot baths and ended up having to v* immediately after, and also was drinking a lot. When I'm sick, heat bothers me and I wait a full twelve hours after the last time I v* before I even try a popsicle.
I've tried my best to stay out of the bathroom, but it's kinda hard since we live in a NYC apartment. We have stayed each in our own bedrooms for the most part, though. I used Lysol wipes the night she was sick before using the bathroom. I bought Lysol spray yesterday and sprayed it down. I bought Clorox Clean-Up with Bleach today and I'm going to have her clean the whole bathroom with it. I've also been spraying the doorknobs, lightswitches, etc. Anything I think she may have touched!
I am really worried, though. I've come this far - 48 hours since she first v*. My problem is I tend to not eat a whole lot for a few days after knowing someone is sick. I've stuck to toast, English Muffins, crackers and granola bars.
I take probiotics and have been doing my best to really wash my hands and not be near her. I'm especially worried because I have meetings tomorrow, all of these final projects due this week, and I'll be traveling 6 hours Saturday to help my sister move...and my biggest fear is getting sick when I'm out. Being on a train for almost three hours then in a car for three more wouldn't be an ideal time!
I know the bug can take awhile to set in, but it seemed to spread fairly quickly through the preschool...so at what point do you think I can consider myself safe?
Last Christmas my niece was sick Monday night, my sister Monday night into early Tuesday morning, and I didn't have it until Friday night....just at the point I'd thought I was safe! However, my niece was sleeping in my bed with me so it's entirely possible she could have passed it to me a day or two after being sick.
With all of the disinfecting and hand-washing and staying apart I'm doing, should I be alright? Does anyone know if probiotics really do prevent sv*? Is there anything else I should be doing to try to prevent this? I know eating a lot of fruits and stuff would probably be good...but honestly I'm worried to eat much of anything!
Any advice would be GREAT!
