I was just wondering if you guys could give me some information about your college expiriences if you have them. Ive begun looking at colleges and its making me really nervous. I dont like the thought of sharing a bathroom with 40 possibly sick people....

I know how you feel. Its my first year in res next year, even thou Ive been in uni for a few years. That idea freaks me out too, but it my dorms, you can get a single room, that comes with a single private bathroom, that you share with 4 other people. Not bad, and I'll just be more careful to wash my hands after i use the restroom. Also, they are cleaned on a daily basis, so any lingering germs wouldn't survive long.

maybe your college/uni might work in the same way. Also, because I have IBS, a previous university was going to allow me acess tomy own private bathroom that I would not have to share. You could always talk to your doc and tell him to write you a medical note explaining your extreme anxiety, and they may make allowances for students in your situations.

but also, it might do you good to face it head on and just go. don't let this phobia stop you.. we can do this!

I did the same thing - I preferred the 20 minute commute from home rather than live in the dorms. It was a lot cheaper too!

I am living on campus next year where I will share a community bathroom with approx. 20 girls. I am nervous but I am convinced that I can over come my phobia and do this!

I went to NIU (I know you are from Chicago, so you probably know that school) and I lived in the dorm for two years. I had a different roommate each year and shared a bathroom with a lot of people. I even lived right across from the bathroom my first year and had almost no bad experiences! Let me know of you have any questions. I think I added you to my AIM once, but I never see you onlilne. I am harmonygirl1972 on there.

Hey, I'm in the same boat- in September I'm going to University and living in res (the one that just happens to be the most notorious for partying) and I definately do have a few worries. Luckily I'm sharing a dorm room with my best friend Kathie, which really helps. Just remember that at University, probably 95% of the time people get sick it's from drinking too much, so you're not at more risk than you would normally be! My worries really subsided whenI sat back and thought about how much fun I'm going to have, and I really hope you have an awesome time too! I'm sure that if you can manage to avoid thinking of the phobia for awhile you'll be able to dig up lots of good reasons why it'll be great for you.
