Default How to find out if I'm a secreter, and should I?

I've been reading a lot about the FUT2 'non-secreter' status, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me just how accurate the home tests are.

Obviously, finding out that I'm a non-secreter would be a God send, because my complete stress about the noro-virus would be gone, but I worry that if I were to find out that I am a secreter, I would be even worse.

Does anyone have any insight into this? I ask only because I don't seem to catch the noro-virus when it goes around, but I don't know if that's because I'm extremely cautious, or because I'm resistant.

This is really interesting because I was just researching this yesterday! I'm not sure how accurate the tests are, but I'm looking into it as well. I'm pretty sure that my dad is a non-secretor, since he can't remember the last time he was sick (knock on wood!) I'm hopeful that I might be, since as a little kid I rarely *V'd (I think only 2 times ever!), and then never did until last year. I think it said that non-secretors are immune to about 90% of the viruses, so it's possible that I could be a non-secretor and still have been infected by the 10% or could have had a different strain or virus all together. I hate to get my hopes up though, because only 20% of the population are non-secretors. It probably wouldn't hurt to get tested because chances are, you're not a non-secretor anyways. The way I look at it is, I assume that I am a secretor now, so if the tests show that I am, then my phobia will probably remain about the same. But if it were to show that I was a non-secretor, then it would bring me huge peace of mind!

Buy a secretor test on Amazon or eBay. You have to know your ABO type first. Doug

Are there any all-in-one kits out there?

Not that I know of. The ABO test (Eldoncard) is pretty readily available and costs about $10. You do it yourself and see the result right on the card. The secretor test has to be mailed in and it costs about $50. You have to state your ABO type on the secretor test form that you mail in. Doug

There is a test called 23 & Me which sequences your genome and it tells you whether or not you are a secretor
