Is it just me or is that the WORST thing anyone can say to an emet? For me, (bit of a control freak) I know that a large part of my phobia is the non control. I.e the lack of choice about getting ill and then the complete unvoluntary-ness of d* and especially v* so why then do people think it is comforting to say to me "Why be afraid of something you can't control?"

What do people say in "comfort" that annoys you?

yenn, I totally know what you mean. Do they honestly expect us to respond with..."Whoa! We CAN'T</span> control it? Why ever didn't you tell me before? That changes everything, I think I'm cured!"

Really I mean a big part of my phobia is about being in control of my own body. I remember one night I did drugs and I freaked out and I wasn't in control of my own thoughts let alone my body! I swore then at that point never to do drugs again. I can't stand not being in control. I think that to a point Emets can control weather they v* or not. I mean most of us would rather fight the n* then actually v* right? I know I would!

I would rather fight the nausea as well, instead of allowing it to happen. Control issue? Maybe...I wouldn't be surprised.

Most people will never understand until they actually experience emetophobia themselves.

Exactly. People just don't understand and they think that because they're not phobic, there's no reason for anyone else to be. Foolish people

When I tell people that I have this phobia they look at me with a question mark in their eyes and say really. They don't get it but when I ask them if they have a phobia and they say they are afraid of bees (just a example) and I ask them how do you feel if a bee was near you? They would say they run away, the hyperventilate and I said that is how this phobia is. But they are lucky they only freak out when summer is here, with this phobia it is a 24/7 phobia. Some people get it some people don't. If you don't have this phobia you will never understand.
