Gosh, today was real fun at work! NOT! I went to work today at noon, and everything was good until one of my coworkers came in a couple of hours later, and one ofthe other coworkers asked him, "are you feeling better today?" The guy said, "no". I immediately asked him what was wrong. He said he was sick all day yesturday and had to leave work early, and the night before that, he was throwing up all night. Well, after hearing that, my day went to hell.

So....I made sure that after I touched anything, I put purell on my hands. I also made sure I didn't touch my face at all. In fact, instead of staying in the same office with him, I made sure I "walked the floor" as much as possible. (I am a loss prevention officer at a department store) It was very hard for me to deal with, beings how our office is sort of small.

Anyways, when I went on my lunch break, I went to the bathroom and washed my hands twice, and used purell twice before I ate. I also avoided touching things that he touched, such as phones, pens, etc. I wouldn't even sit in the chair he sat in. Crazy huh??

So...I guess my question is, do you think if he had a sv, that I took enough precaution??

Thisguy first said he thought it was food poisoning, but then he just had to add, "or the flu". EEEEEEK!!! My day was stressful. HELP!! Charlotte

I am sorry you had to go through being at work with a worker that may had been contagious. I think you took enough precaution. Washing your hands, avoidingcontact, and using hand sanitizer is really all you could have done while at work.

It could have been a SV, but many other things cause vomiting. It could have just as likely been something non-contagious.

It seems weird why he would come into work if he had been vomiting that night before.Unless he cannot get off for sick leave easily.

I would try not to worry too much. People come into contact with all kinds of viruses everyday, but most fight most of them off. Even if it is a stomach virus, as long as you wash your hands like you are doing and avoid touching things that he touched, you are taking the precautions necessary for preventing catching it (if it is something you can catch).

I guess (not wanting to make any of you agoraphobic too!) that we all passin the streetor share public transport or stand in line with hundreds of people every day who may be ill, and we don't catch illnesses all the time, so I'd say the risk of catching something here is very slight.
