OK, I posted a couple of days or so ago about me being at work, and a guy I work with came in and said he was sick and thought it might have been food poisoning or the "flu".

I also stated that I had used purell all day that day, and pretty much stayed out of the office all day because of him.

Anyways, today I worked with him again. I have no idea if what he had was contagious or not, so I took precautionjust to be safe. Well, I used purell every 5 minutes (lol) and didn't touch my face at all. I even had to sit in an office chair he had sat in all day, I was petrified that he had stomach virus germs in the chair cushion (maybe from his butt germs??...stupid I know...LOL) so I tied my sweater around my waste and sat on that. Well, all went good until I was typing up my narrative on the computer, and he came and sat right by me to help. YIKES!!! So I held my breath as much as possible while he talked, and kept my head facing the other way. (I am sure I looked really stupid by the way) So after that was done, I let out a big sigh of relief that I could breathe again, and stay further away from him. Well, wouldn't you know it....he sneezed all over the place!! (mind you, we were about 2 feet away from each other) Didn't even cover his mouth!!!! What is worse that than, was a fan was blowing his germs my way!!!! So when he sneezed, I quickly said "YUCK!" and covered my face with my shirt for a minute or so.

My question is...if he was still contagious with a sv, could I get it from his sneeze? I heard you can't get that type of virus the airborne way. I will worry about this until Thursday night now....and this SUCKS!!!

But...the guy was eating like crazy at work, so I am hoping that is a good sign??? HELP!!! Charlotte

    Hi Charlotte,

No, you can't get a sv from a sneeze. A sv is something that settles in your stomach, so the only way to get it is to be in contact with a person's vomit or stool (sorry about the description). I think the most common way it's transmitted is by a person not washing their hands after they use the bathroom, or by someone sharing a bathroom or having to clean up after someone. The virus doesn't live in the mucus like it does when you have a cold. I suppose you could get it from someone's spit, but the chances are very slim.

    You're going to be fine.

I've read that the only possible way you could catch an sv*via the air is from aerosolized vomit-not a sneeze.

HA! Which book are you referring to?? LOL! I think I have read about all that I can. They help for a while, but emet comes creeping up on me again. I am thinking the only sure way to get rid of emet, is by stopping all of the daily avoidances, and just face my fear head on; but...we all know how easy that is.

Doesn't seem like Dr. Phil is gonna step in to help us with our emetophobia. I guess that was my last hope. *sigh* Charlotte
