I had a lovely v* encounter today at work.

    ********GRAPHIC*************

I work at Wendy's--yippee--and I was at the front counter taking orders. I noticed that a girl about 6 or 7 years old didn't look quite right. But I think this all the time and nothing ever happens, so I went back to taking orders. This girl was with her grandma and they were getting four burgers to go. While they were waiting for their sandwiches and I was taking another order, I glanced over, and about 15 feet away, I saw the puddle. The little girl had v* around her mouth and down her shirt, so I knew it wasn't spilled pop.

I called for the manager and said, "Some girl just got sick out here." She got a guy to clean it up, but the grandmother did most of the work herself.

The surprising part is, I only panicked for a second, and went back to finishing my order. I didn't freak out and run away! I kept working! I kind of had to, since it was the lunch rush. But I can't believe I kept my cool like that. Maybe there's hope for me yet!

Hey, good job! I doubt it was a stomach virus. I can't dismiss the possibility entirely that it wasn't, but children around that age get sick almost entirely off of anything! Could be several reasons why she wasn't feeling well. But why am I explaining this to you? You kept your cool, and that's inspirational! I'm sorry you had to see something like that, but congratulations on handling it well.

Very good. I don't know if I would have handled it that well myself. I probably would have freaked out. Good job!

Good for you! Do you find that when there is something going on that keeps you from being able to panic you do much better? I mean.. What were you to do? You were at work, you had a job to do, you really had no choice about obsessing. And, it really is helpful to have something to get your mind on to help avoid the panic (you had your job to concentrate on) I really think you should give yourself a big pat on the back! Awesome!

It definitely sounds like you handled it well--better than I would have.

Jennyleigh--I didn't know your daughter had been sick. Is she OK now?
