It doen't contain real cake batter...I think the real problem comes from the fact that they make their ice cream from scratch everyday, and you get unexperienced people who don't care, and are careless...

I used to be addicted to Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream but now I can't eat it...which state is this happening in? Doesn't matter anyway because I'll be steering clear of them for a while!

I've often wondered about chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and whether it is a risk for salmonella. It is one of my favorite flavors although I don't eat it that often!

Isn't ice cream itself made from eggs?

There have been 15 known cases of Salmonella that have been traced to the Cold Stone, cake batter ice cream.

To sort out some facts andcorrect a few of the things stated...

~ Yes, the ice cream DOES contain actual cake batter and the batter is what is believed to be causing the outbreaks

~ The outbreaks haveoccured in four states (Minnesota, Washington State, Oregon, andOhio)

~ As Mitch04133 said, The ice creamis typically mixed in the store by workers daily, however, the ingredients and supplies are not made from scratch in the store (at least not most of them), but rathershipped in from the factories. Therefore,it more than likely has nothing todo with careless workers, rather already contaminated ingredients that were sent to stores nationwide.

Hope that clears up some things...

I'm nota big fan ofbatter ice cream of anykind... I prefer mocha chocolate chipfrom Graeters (if you live close to Kentucky or Ohio you should totally try their ice cream!) or Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia myself :O)

I hate to throw this in because it's not exactly on topic, but today I start working in an ice cream store. We don't have Cold Stone in Canada as far as I know. The one I'm starting at is called Confetti. We do have cookie dough I think, but the icecream is made right here in Calgary from scratch so I don't think there's a risk since there's not too much transportation. Annnnnnnnnyway, if anyone happens to live in Calgary, stop by for some ice cream! (Maybe not cookie dough though, hahaha!)

You'd think that by now there would be some safety restrictions with using raw eggs in ice cream, wouldn't you? Hmmm...
