Ok so, watching myself, Ive noticed that a lot of the things I do, contridict completely the fact that Im emetophobic. I mean, I shall do things that are really quite gross, without even thinking about it, n then on the other hand I wont touch public toilet flushers or banisters, or I open bathroom doors with a tissue lol. Anyhow, I know we could go on forever listing silly things that we do because they protect us, but do you do any gross non-emet things just because youve always done them, or you dont associate them with illness so its fine, even though its really quite nasty?
    Heres some of mine.

I have really longgg fingernails, and always paint my nails so its only once in a while I notice how mucky they actually are underneath.

I almost always eat with my fingers, unless its something you actually physically cant! Even if Im eating at the computer, or doing something else at the same time.

If Im outside, I just Have to touch things. lol. I mean like running my hand along fence bars or whatever, and if I sit down on the beach/ ground/ grass I haveto pick up stones or flowers to play with. Whats worse is that if someone offers me sweeties I will eat with those hands without worrying about it.

    Sharing food.
Ditto bottled drinks... although I dont do that much now. My logic on that one is that sharing a drink is no grosser than kissing someone so its alright with very close friends. Not that Id kiss my close friends like that but uhh.. you know what I mean.

    Hmm, let me see...

Oh! I'm always precautious on what I eat, what I touch, however if I'm making a brownie or cake batter which normally involves raw eggs, I always lick the bowl afterwards! I haven't gotten sick yet, but good lord I make sure to consume the leftover batter because I think it tastes so good, and I never think twice on the raw eggs.

    Until now...

You know, I don't find myself doing too much at all. Besides washing my hands or opening doors with tissues if they are really gross. Most of my things are internal rituals. Like, not wearing the same pj's after a v*ing incident...things like that. I don't seem to be compulsive, although I have no idea why. Part of me figures, if I'm gonna get it, I'm gonna get it. But, if the chance is there (like I HEAR that a sv might be going around, I will FREAK out. Panic for weeks. Hmmmm????? Kinda strange.

i always wash my hands before touching food, but not with soap. And my parents will make me food when I know they havent washed their hands but I eat it without worrying.

I wanted to add to the sharing food/drinks bit. I only share food/drinks with my boyfriend because anything he would have I figure I would pick up through kissing him. But all of my friends know that I don't share drinks. I never really did before I was emetophobic though.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are small in comparison to what lies within us.
