On Saturday one of my 4 year old sisters was complaining on stomach pains most of the day, then at bedtime she v* quite a bit but only the one time. She slept through the night, and on Sunday seemed a bit brighter, if not fully well, and no more v*. Then, my other 4 year old sister (twins) also v* on Sunday, apparently twice but not very much either time. Neither of them ate much at all over Saturday or Sunday, but today they've had bits and pieces to eat. Now they've got kinda d* - well I don't know if it is, but it's "burning" them as it comes out and they're crying from the pain - although this has only happened once each as far as I'm aware.

I wasn't around either of them much on Sat or Sun, and I wasn't there when either of them v* ......will I be safe? I'm panicking because d* scares me as much as v* and also its my birthday Wednesday so I especially don't wanna get ill!!

PLease help, will I catch it? Would I have been ill already if I was going to? Will my adult immunity mean it won't affect me as much as them?Edited by: yenn

I think that if you were not around them while they were sick, or much before they were sick, that as long as you keep your hands clean, and away from your face, mouth, ect ..... that you should be fine. Just remember that if they are having diarrhea, that they may still be contagious, and be mindful of the fact that they are four, they may not remember to wash their hands. Keep us posted and try not to worry, although I know that is hard.

It is hard, I thought they were getting better and now they've had the d* it's got me more worried again. They're bouncing round the house and being their normal noisy selves, and the d* has only happened once. Maybe it's because they've eaten for the first time in three days?

Could be, but kids are not like us, they can be barfing one min. and up playing the next. I think it is a good sign that they are up and playing. The diarrhea is just the bodies way of getting rid of the rest of whatever made them sick in the first place. I wouldnt be like all up in their faces playing with them and such for the next few days, but I think as long as you werent there when they got sick, that you should be fine.

I hope you're right...people keep telling me that as an adult i have a better immunse system and as such probably won't get sick.... my stepmum never catches their bugs, so perhaps there's some truth in that

I would stay away from the washrooms they used until they have been bleached and disinfected and everyone is feeling better. I know that might be a hard thing to do !! But if you can try, that is an excellent way to avoid. I always stay at a friends place or completely isolate myself. I have been lucky knock on wood.

The lil 8 year old I live with was sick the other weekend, and I didnt catch anything, just stay well out of the way, and dont touch Anything for a few days.

Chances are if you were going to get it youd have started with it already, a lot of bugs are most contageous in the early stages, but be careful just in case..

n bear in mind that something which makes them sick probably wont even harm you- Your immune system is stronger because youre a grown up, and because youre emetophobic, the chances of you getting sick from a bug are minimal, your mind wont let you.

A few years ago a friends four year old threw up whilst sat on my knee, and Id been playing with her all day too, and nothing happened to me, kids are just more suseptable to bugs than we are, and they affect them more badly.

I've had to be using the same bathroom as them because we only have one in the house! I do wash my hands before I eat anything or put my hands near my mouth but one of my nervous habits is touching my face, could I have spread germs to myself this way?

I was hoping when you said about the immunity thing that that would mean I'd be okay but this morning my Stepmum says she's woekn up feeling really sick. She says she isn't going to be (How does she know?!) but that shows that i's also something us adults can get. Although maybe if it's just the feeling sick and she isn't sick there is some level of hope I guess.

    I hate this constant fear.

It's just so stressful. I cannot express in words how terrified I feel and how much I HATE this phobia.

The good thing about this site is that you don't have to explain in words how you feel - we all know, all too well, exactly how you feel. And we're here for you.

I know, and thankyou. I just feel at the end of my tether. I was having downtime, thinking it was going to be fine because of my adult immune system and now I can't relax because if my stepmum has got it I might too and I just can't stop thinking about it. On the plus side she hasn't been sick yet (to my knowledge)

Hi thanks for your concern. SO far I *seem* to be in the clear but my stepmum has been ill all day, and further to my previous post, I'm almost 100% sure that shev* at least once and has had diarhea too so things aren't looking good for me! I've been reading up on Norwalk for about 2 hours, and it says that it's not airborne so I've inferred from it that as long as I keep my hands washed (which I do at all times but I'm being extra stringent at the moment) that I should be ok as far as contmination goes? (Of course the dreaded problem is, I might have already contaminated myself over the past few days.)

I hate this. I am so sorry your are going through this. Its the worst. Try to thing postive(i can never do it so who am i to talk) But maybe you stepmom was way more exposed then you were. Try to get some fresh air, go for a ride or walk. I cant believe there are still bugs going around! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!! Just pray, pray that if you get it you will be cured for ever, or pray you wont get it. I pray when I am in these situations, sometimes it helps me. I try to visualize myself getting it and being strong, and brave and handling it the best I can. Try to visualize positive things. Visualize yourself being strong and brave. Hang in there! Keep us posted!

i dont want to visulaise getting it though in case it happens. she has been more exposed than me - by a long way, she was there when each of the kids was sick, she cleaned up after them and looked after them, i didn't see any of them on saturday or sunday (when the kids were ill) really so I haven't been exposed to them. My dad has been exposed too and he is ok so far, and my little brother....i'm convinced one of the three of us will wake up ill tomorrow. If it is me I will wish I hadn't woken up at all. I've been in tears on and off all day because I just feel like I'm at the end of my patience with it all.

I dont think you will get it. Its harder to catch we think although we refuse to beleive it. Can you leave the house? Do you know anyone else you can stay with? I hate to give advice in telling you to run from the fear. Just make yourself to deep breathes. And if your crying its okay, let it out. Dont hold your emotions and frusterations in. Talk to us, or someone close to you if you can. We will get you through it no matter what. We are here for you! PS.. I am so mad I am in med school right now. I am too stressed out as it is. I wish I could take my own advice and think positive and try to relax. I think this is the worst emet I have ever had this year! NOT ONCE have I heard of the sv going around so much AND in the summer?????? I want to scream! Maybe its the last of it for now? I sure hope so!

Keep in touch! Let me know how you are doing!

My little brother has just been v*. In the bathroom. (And I'm dying for a wee!) There isn't anybody else - my mum lives a couple streets away but she doesn't have a spare bedroom, and I kinda need to be in my safe place in case I get sick too. I just don't know what to do. I'm totally convinced I'm going to get this. My dad's a gonner for sure now cos he jsut cleaned up after my brother because my stepmumis feelingill too. What do I do? I haven't felt so afraid in a long long time. Not even the sv they had at the start of june got me this wound up because none of my parents got it so I knew I'd be safe myself.

Just follow your emet rules. Do the best you can. It will pass soon enough. I wish there was more I could do. This happend to me a few years ago. My bf and entire family got it except me! I was around all of them and kissed my boyfriend the day he came down with it! It was a nightmare I remember! Just try the best you can to get through it. What ever works for you when your panicked. Do your sistersor brother seem bothered by v?

No they are fine with it, it doesn't have an effect on them at all. It's just me, I go to pieces. I 've been trying to reason with myself but it's not working:

-when rebecca was ill on saturday I barely spent time with any of the family b/c they were out most of the day and i was out on the evening

-georgia got ill during sunday: i was at work for 11 hours

-jean is ill today but i haven't spent any time with her really but am still convinced she did v* and nobody's told me and i might've inhaled some droplets which could lead to me getting ill

-jamie's just been sick. i have not spent any time with him today although was talking to him in the living room but was quite a distance away

-i did walk past the bucket he used in the hall, but it had been rinsed by this time and was just wet inside from the rinsing.

--so i haven't been around anyone's actual v* and i might have inhaled a few droplets but surely they can't make me ill? What do you think the risk is for me? Please be truthful!

Honestly I think the possibility is slim. You might not have inhaled droplets for one. And if you did, your body is resilient and can fight things off. you had it last month, most likely you would be immune this time around. And if you do get it, you might just have d. Do you have any anti anxiety drugs. Drink some cranberry juice, there have been studied saying that it fight stomach viruses in monkeys. Monkeys exposed to the virus that had cranberry juice didnt get it. It makes it hard for the virus to attach to the red blood cells. So get some cranberry juice (100%) juice. Maybe that will give you so peace of mind. You can even buy cranberry pills if you dont like the taste.

I am not sure how long before your exposed that you have to drink the juice. Its worth a shot and it wouldnt hurt you. I am assuming that it works pretty fast. Doctors tell you to drink it when you already have a bladder infection and it helps keep the bacteria from attaching to your uterus.... But I am not a doctor (yet) so I dont realy know. It is worth a shot. Sorry you sibs got it twice. That weird. From what I always thought you only got a sv every few years, mine tend to be like every 10 years I get one. But these sv's seem to be all over latley. I dont even remember my parents getting it my whole life. It just seems like an illness you get every one in a while. Not every year or anything.... It just seems strange. Is everyone eating something contaiminated in your house. Or drinking out of the carton and sharing food. Maybe there is something your family has been eating that went bad or something? Keep me posted.

    Yenn,

How are you feeling? How is the rest of the family doing now? It really sucks that you are having to deal with this. What I was thinking is that if you were exposed to a sv last month and you were only nausiated, maybe even if you do come into contact with this virus, you won't actually v* like them, but maybe just feel ill again. Has everyone only v* once?? Try to hang in there. We're thinking of you. Keep us posted.

As far as i know eveyone has only v* once with the exception of my stepmum who I'm still being told hasn't v* at all but I don't believe this I'm about to go to bed - hopefully I'll sleep and won't be woken by the sounds of people getting up to be ill. I'll let you know how things are in the morning, thanks for your concern

Good morning to everyone. Nobody was sick through the night, I haven't seen my Dad but he's gone off to work so I can only assume he's feeling fine. MY brother is staying off school today but has just asked for breakfast so that's a good sign right? And Jean is feeling a lot better, not sick or anything. As for me......I'm feeling okay so far, so we shall see how the day progresses.
