So I'm debating getting a puppy. I just love them...I really want to get a Daschund (wiener dog) but I'm just so scared of him v*ing. I don't mind picking up his poo or whatever..but being alone (I live by myself) and having him sick...around me, scares me to death. Maybe I'll just not get one...

You shouldn't not get a puppy because you are scared of him getting
sick. It's not as bad as you think. I have a cat who has a
very weak stomach. lol. And i wouldn't give her up for the
world. They become like children, and you don't mind them getting
sick. My parents have 2 goldens, and they are rarely sick.
Cammy (one of the dogs) once ate an entire box of Valentine chocolate,
and didn't get sick once! Their stomachs are pretty strong.
When they do get sick, its usually dog food, and its very dry. My
parents let them outside to eat some grass, and the dogs deal with it
on their own. Please get the puppy! They bring so much joy
into your life. Good luck! Carrie

It will be good exposure therapy when it does get sick!

The love of a pet is an awesome thing... You should go for it and get yourself a puppy!

Just don't feed him weird stuff and he should be okay.

My parents feed our dog EVERYTHING they eat pretty much, dogs are not equipped to handle that, so she does get sick sometimes. However, they were gone for a week and I gave her nothing but her dog food, and some string cheese as treats in the evening, and she didn't get sick once.

just remmeber if it does get sick its not anything thats going to harm
their v will have no affect on you physically, it might mentally but you;ll
be able to talk yourself out of that

I used to have two dogs, both of them died recently, but I had them for
15 years and they did get sick at times, but dog sick isn't half as bad
as human sick.

This may seem gross or graphic, but the sound a dog makes isn't the
same as us, its a lot less traumatic, and of course, if you get a small
dog like a daschund, it will be such a small amount, it really wouldn't
bother you that much.

I was fine about my dogs getting sick, (GRAPHIC) - I would just take a
massive wad of kitchen roll and pick it up and quickly put it in the
toilet, or if it was outside, I would just take a hosepipe and wash it
away. Its NOTHING like ours at all, and doesn't smell that bad either.

I would prefer to clean it myself than watch my mother or brother do it, and gag constantly while they were doing it!

And Jenneh and Co are right, they usually take themselves outside to
eat grass, if they are feeling unwell. And you normally can tell when
they are going to get sick, and have time to get them outside!

Hope this helps to convince you that having a pet/dog is wonderful,
they are very good 'friends' when you are feeling low, they just love
unconditionally.. it might help you take the focus off your Emet, if
you have a little puppy to care for and look after.

Get a dog! Seriously animals are so relaxing and theraputic, not to mention FUN! It's really worth it. My cat wasn't sick for abbout 6 years after we got her. Recently she is sick more but I think because she is older she is intolerant now to some food. But it's wayyyyy easier to handle. I always thought I'd flip out and I haven't. I'm not saying it's fun or anything lol but you can cope if it happens I promise you. Plus my mum and sister cant clean it without gagging and throwing up so I would rather I do it than anyone else

I have a cat and she gets sick all the time. It's nothing like our sick, it's always in some neat little pile haha and normally it's either because of a hairball (which doesn't look like v* at all) or because she didn't chew her food well enough. In that case, it hardly even looks like v*, it just looks like chunky cat food. It doesn't even smell bad at all and it's really easy to clean up with paper towels. I say get a dog and don't worry about it until you have to.

My family always had dogs when I was growing up and everytime the v*, I'd panic. I would completely avoid the room, hold my breath, close my eyes and run as far away as I could. My husband works really long hours nd I hate being alone at night somcuh, so I wanted to geta dog to keep my company. I was really scared about her v* and him not being home to clean it up, but it really doesn't bother me at all. The dog we got has an allergy problem where she is constantly itching. She chews on herself to scrath (which unfortunately has made her miss some patches of hair now) but all that hair in her stomach makes her v* A LOT. Some times everyday. It was proof that exposure therapy works! I don't even think about it anymore. I just clean it up with no problem. We got another dog about 5 months ago, and in that time he has only v* twice. Once was just from drinking water too fast so it was all just water. And he is a pupppy who gets into everything.

My point is - go ahead and get a dog! They are wonderful to have around, they keep you company and love you unconditionally. You can't catch anything from their v*, so you don't have to worry about it. Like most people said here, they usually do it outside anyways (and very rarely) but if you happen to get a dog like mine who does v* more often I guarantee you will be fine. It may actually help you in the long run.

My dogs and cat v'ing doesn't bother me. Actually I'm the v* cleaner-upper in the house and my husband is on poop duty. It's gross, but doesn't send me into a panic. Really, you may have the same experience with a dog. Just be sure to make the committment if you get one, and have a backup v*-cleaner-upper for any messes... it's bound to happen... but just don't get rid of the dog because of it. My dogs are my kids, and I'm so glad I have those precious little souls in my life.

I just wanted to add that the weiner dog in your avatar is just about the most adorable thing ever!!!! Edited by: 2jo2
