Talking I almost v*, and got through it without an attack!!

So a couple weeks ago I had a pretty bad case of the flu that's going around (the normal one, not the stomach flu) and I was coughing like crazy. I was eating and all of a sudden I got this freak coughing attack that just wouldn't stop, no matter what I did. Before I even knew what was happening I started gagging, but I kept my hand clamped over my mouth in case I v*. It stopped after about 5 times and after I was steady again, I drank some water and just tried to breathe normally (I couldn't breathe while g* so many times in a row and it was scary). My family asked if I was okay I and I just kind of laughed shakily and assured them I was fine. And I was! I didn't get a full blown panic attack like I was expecting to! All I got was shaky cold hands, a sore throat and neck, and that was it. I thought being so close to v* (I actually did come pretty close, now that i think about it) would send me into a panic frenzy, but it didn't! I didn't freak out and I'm really happy about that

Sounds like you handled it well, but considering you were just coughing its rare that anything actually comes up. I have had that happen before when I got a viral infection and was coughing like a mad woman. Still - the fact that you didn't panic about it is good!

Always be careful to prevent paroxysms of cough. They are a cause of vomiting. Doug

I have a terribly sensitive gag reflex so ANY time I cough I end up gagging. I have only V once because of it because of bronchitis and iI didn't have any anxiety then either. I remember one time I had a coughing fit while driving down the freeway and I literally had to pull over because I was gagging so much. Still to this day I can't believe that no V came up because my stomach muscles were so sore afterwards, that is how bad the wr*tching was. But like you, I didn't have any anxiety that time as well. I was afraid because I was on the side of the freeway choking and coughing but I wasn't afraid that it was going to come up. I actually wanted to just to get it over with and so I could get off the side of the freeway hahaha!

That's awesome though. I always think "okay, I've been nauseous before and I've gagged like a mad woman before and neither of them were THAT bad, why am I SO afraid?!"

Ah thanks for replying, guys! It's really cool to hear that I wasn't alone in this. It definitely isn't any fun haha
Also, KimberlyP i completely agree with what you said about going through all the nausea and gagging and STILL being afraid. I don't understand why that is, but it happens to me too. It doesn't make any sense, we've basically gone through all the other aspects except vomiting itself. I guess the term "irrational fear" completely applies here hah

Nice, you handled that very well. I remember one time i was little I had a flu and was up late coughing like crazy! I ending up coughing so much I gagged and my parents told me to sit in front of the toilet and they put a towel on my shoulders. I didn't v* but way to make me associate coughing with v* mom and dad lol
