Im sure most of you know about the situation that had beengoing on at
the camp that i work at...The thing was the kids were sick on friday night
and saturday mourning, and i saw them at camp on tuesday. I was only
able to wash my hands twice during the day and use purell once. I never
touched my face or anything but i got in my car and touched a lot of stuff
in there. I used lysol wipes but apparently those don;t work, so i sprayed
the entire car with lysol spray but i didnt wipe it off i just left it there to
sit is that a bad thing....? Im just wondering if it is possible that i brought
the small amount of sv i might have come in contact with into my house
or somethign like that...

I'm sure you didn't bring it in. It's been long enough now that you would have it if you were going to get it. Did you go back to work today? Viruses can't live on surfaces for too long. I'm sure anything that may possibly have been transferred to your car is long gone by now - with or without Lysol. I think I read once that they can only survive outside the human body for at max a few hours. If you haven't gone back to work, then you haven't been exposed since Tuesday. I remember you mentioning that you think it came from a pool the previous Tuesday. If everyone got sick Friday and Saturday when exposed Tuesday, the last possible time you were exposed was Tuesday, a few days ago. If you don't have it by tomorrow or Saturday, you aren't going to get it. But I really think you would have already anyway if you were going to. You were exposed to it already, and even though you didn't get sick, your body started creating antibodies to fight it off. Basically, strengthening your immune system against it. Unless you got a really hefty dose of the virus on Tuesday, I really doubt you will get it. Try and relax, I know it's hard, but assuming you didn't go back to work at the camp, you are out of the woods as far as exposure is concerned. You will be fine, I'm sure.

I'm sure you will be ok. I mentioned this on another post, but I
have used lysol wipes and lysol spray ( an entire can in 3 days) in a
car. I shared a work car with a guy who came back to work the day
after he had a sv*. I had to use the car right after he did, for
the night shift. I spent the first 15 min wiping down EVERYTHING
he may have touched with the wipes, and sprayed the rest with the
can. I ended up being ok. It sounds like you did the right
thing by washing your hands when you got a chance. And not
touching your face. Since this is the only way to really spread
sv* I think you are going to be fine. Let us know how you are
doing. Carrie

How do we actually trasmit stomach bugs etc. is it just through touching surfaces and each other that it is past. and we do most people get ill during the night? if i was ill i'd rather it was night time cos i most likeyl be at home rather than somewhere public. but why does it happen during the night? is there ar reason?

I am sory if I caused excess worry with my post on lysol wipes. Just wanted everyone to be knowledgable that they are not a sure thing. My thoughts on why thestomach viruses strikes mainily at night is because we usually get them 24 to 48 hours after we have been exposed. 36 hours after exposure is when the majority of people start to feel the symptoms. thats 1 and a half days. On that half day it justt so happens to be at night. My father had a sv a few months ago and he started to feel sick at about 12 noon. Baseballplayer I am sure you aer out of the woods. I need it is hard for all of us to do, but try not to live your life on "what ifs". Stomach bugs are transmitted through ingestion of the virus, whether it be by touching somthing tht someone has contaminated, or being really close to a person while they are vomiting and inhaling, thus swalowing particuls. Remember, just bcause a sick person touched on object doesnt mean that they have put the virus on that object. They have to have the virus on there hands to put it on an object. The virus is only excreted in voit and feces. So it is really a slim to nonechance that you will get it if you keep your hands washed before eating and don't put your hands in or around your mouth without washing them first.

Hi - don't fret I wasn't concerned by the lysol comments I am just genuinely interested as how these things are transmitted!! I'd avoid however it is if there was something else other than washing our hads and being hideously careful!!

well the thing is i would be done worrying now but...so i went out to
dinner with my girlfriend and her dad last night. I drove and met them
there in my maybe germ infested car it was a itailian place so i figured id
just get pasta so i didnt have to get up and wash my hands...bad idea...so
of course im eating the pasta and i notice theres a little bit of sauce on
the back of my finger, and i couldnt help thinking what if it got in the
pasta or what if a piece hit my hand and i ate it...well i talked myself out
of that one becasue i didnt touch anything with the back of my hand...so
later we were walking to the car and her phone rang and it was one of our
friends so i touch her phone and give it back to her...shes one of those
people who cant stop touching her mouth and stuff, so now im worried
that shes going to get sick or im going to get sick because at my house
her hand hit my mouth by accident....UGH I WAS SO CLOSE TO BEING IN
THE CLEAR THIS IS SO FRUstrating

Honestly, you are in the clear!! Even if your pasta touched the back of your hand I am fairly confident you hand is sv free. You came back from camp and by the sounds of it you have thoroughly washed your hands and car etc. I really really wouldn't worry about it. Germs can't live for ever - they aren't immortal!! Try to chill, I know it's easier said than done but I am so confident you are fine!!

No, no, you are still in the clear. Your car is not germ infested anyway. You would not have transported a stomach virus on Tuesday into the car and it would still be alive on Thursday to infect someone. There is nothing in your car from the camp. This is a whole big scenario that you're allowing yourself to invent because of the stress of having been at the camp during the outbreak.

A relevant (I believe)personal experience story:

I work in a small office this summer, and on Tuesday, my coworker, with whom I had spent the day hanging out and eating on Friday, came in. She looked awful, and she said that this was the first day that she had been able to eat anything. She gave the whole low down on how ill she was over the weekend and on Monday. She had to leave and go get fresh air a couple of times on Tuesday because she felt sick.

On Wednesday, she had the day off, and the only available computer was the one she had worked on the day before. I sat and typed at that computer all day, and I never washed it off with wipes or anything. I'm not worried at all because it's not possible that there is some stomach virus lurking in the computer keyboard that then stayed alive another 12 hours or so to infect me when I type on it. That just doesn't make sense.

You even wiped down your car. There is nothing in your car to make you ill. You're just associating it in your mind with the whole stressful experience of the camp. Let it go in your mind, and enjoy your weekend.

i know i probably shouldnt be worrying too much but still i mean its just
frustrating becasue i thought i was in the clear now but then my girlfriend
touched my face with her possibly soiled hands and i cant help but worry
she went to the bathroom before and washed her hands for about 3
seconds adn i was very surprised because shes usually very hygenic and
shes one to touch her mouth alot so im worried about her as well I dont
know i just have to convince myself that my car was clean i jsut feel like
since i didnt wipe of the lysol i just sprayed it and let it sit than i didnt
really remove anythign my cars still sticky haha Edited by: baseballplaya12
