Default Does having to go to sleep early make you anxious?

I usually work evening shifts at work from 2:30-11pm, so I can stay up late and I usually feel safer that way. But last week and this week I've been working some morning shifts, so tomorrow I have to work at 7am. I always need my eight hours, so to wake up on time for work tomorrow I have to go to sleep in 45 minutes. I'm extremely scared of going to sleep early when it's something I HAVE to do. As much as I hate night time, I feel so much safer being awake for the majority of it. I've already taken a Klonopin, but still having anxiety. Anyone else have this?

Having to wake up early the next day has never been an incentive for me to go to sleep early lol. I would take a Unisom tablet if it would help or perhaps half of one so you would be less groggy the next day if falling asleep is your issue?

Hahah, yeah, I'm debating just not getting a full eight hours and having coffee be my best friend in the morning.

Yes! I get nervous when I have to wake up early, like tomorrow. I'm always afraid I won't get enough sleep, and not feel well the next day, not be able to eat like I should, and be tired or not feel good at work, etc etc etc.....it's difficult, but I sometimes take something like you, just to try to ensure a good night's sleep. Hang in...

I am like you--I have always feared nighttime the most and feel "safer" to stay awake. It's not as bad as it used to be for me--I guess I can thank years of therapy and good meds for that. I used to stay awake all night so that I could be alert for any signs that something might "happen"-- I didn't care if I got any sleep or not. I still feel that way a lot of the time, but I have to force myself to suppress it and do a lot of positive self-talk and reassurance so that I can go to bed and get my rest. I'm not as young as I used to be, and I have 2 kids that are going to wake up in the morning and need me whether I feel like it or not, and I've learned that it's a heck of a lot harder to be a mom when I'm dog-tired! I have to take Ativan every night, though, and I have to shut and latch our bedroom door as an added "barrier" to help me feel "safer" in my own bed. It's crazy that I can't even feel safe and secure and relaxed in my very own bed at night.

I go to be 11 pm like clockwork so that's my usual time. I do know what happens when I don't get the appropriate sleep: I get antsy and anxious...it's weird and I'm off for a few days.

Sometimes though if I force myself to sleep if I am feelin just the slightest bit off I usually wake up in the night w nausea chills and anxiety....very strange pattern indeed

I'm the same. I have a backwards schedule of going to sleep somewhere in the very early morning and not awakening to the late afternoon - I don't really feel safe or anything during the night, but if I have to wake up in the morning I'll be completely off for about the next week, tired and more anxious than ever. To add those mornings I always dry heave worse than I normally do; I forced myself to get up early some days ago so I could walk up to Wal-Mart and get a new iPod and I couldn't even make it halfway there because my coughing was starting to make my body hurt like mad.
Your anxiety could also be just because it's your usual schedule of sleeping, and naturally our body feels awful (stomach included of course) when we have to try and switch it around, which definitely isn't good for someone with anxiety and a fear of feeling sick...I'm going to guess it's also from the fact that I've noticed most emets believe that most times we've ever gotten sick was upon waking up from slumber, so allowing ourselves to go in through the night like that comforts us a tad more.

It definitely makes me anxious, because like others have said, it's something I feel like I "have" to do, I think. I don't "go to bed" at all and haven't for a few months-- I watch TV until I drift off to sleep. It works nearly every time . Something about "getting ready for bed" just makes me so anxious that I can't sleep! And I require 8 hrs, too.. 3 yr old at home with HIGH energy demands that I am rested .

Having to go to sleep late makes me nervous. Especially since my room is really dark and bare. When I get nervous at night I sleep in my sister's room because she keeps her lamp on, usually has a cat in her room, and watches really girly movies like Tinkerbell that somehow calm me down, lol. Emetophobia, thank you for introducing me to the little mermaid xD
