has anyone taken zofran for noro? does it work? and by that i mean can it keep you from Ving? can you take it as soon as you feel nauseated and stop the Ving from happening at all? Has anyone had any experiences with it?

I had Noro for the first time ever in Oct 2011. At the onset of nausea, I took one Zofran (4mg) at about 6 or a little after then proceeded to go on to a meeting I was scheduled to attend at 7. While I was there, the d* started and more n*, and I took another Zofran. I left the meeting and barely made it home at around 7:30 to more d*, then I did v* several times. It was when my phobia "re-kicked in" because for years, I felt safe because I always had Zofran with me. My opinion is that maybe I didn't take enough, early enough? I have a really hard time telling regular n* from anxiety n*, gas, normal digestion feelings, so I think I just didn't take it in time. By the time I took it, my stomach had already stopped digesting due to the virus, I think. I think I only got it, to be honest, because I had mono at the time (was confirmed after the fact) and my immune system was severely compromised. It was not a fun experience.
I wonder if there is anything that you can do during noro to completely avoid Ving. I took it during a regular stomach virus and zofran with the help of phenergran kept me from Ving but i just think that the noro is such a strong virus. I too have become more cofident knowing i have the zofran with me all the time. I dont let my guard down but I am confident that if i do get it then i can just take the zofran and all will be fine. I am beginning to 2nd guess its effectiveness against noro.
I wonder if you could have taken more zofran after the first Ving episode if it would have stopped you from ving again.
I have taken zofran not for sv, but for morning sickness while pregnant. It did keep me from v, but did not help much with the n. So b
Oops, posted too soon...Was going to say it did help with v in my experience. They were the dissolving tabs, btw.
I bet the dissolving ones would be good! Don't have to digest the way regular ones do.
I gave my husband one when he was had the bug. He did get sick 8 hours later, but it is because it ran out. I think each time is different each time.
I haved used it on a regular stomach virus and it worked and you are right at the 8 hour mark my son did get sick. I was just wondering how effective it is against noro. Noro seems like such a mean nasty condition that I wonder if there is anything that can fight it back. Keep the Ving from happening.
I have read that Grape Seed Extract can kill noro, there was a recent study done if you google it. I take it daily and I keep zofran on hand at all times. My 2 1/2 year old son got a sv for the first time early January he only v* once and had d* once but since than it's like my phobia is the worst it's ever been :/ I am so afraid of noro it's awful. I pray that the Grape Seed Extract helps and if I get it that zofran will stop me from v*!
nacarpenter3/ I am in the exact same boat. We had a lot of noro going on around here in December and I think my little guy had a touch of it. It was so intense even the people that arent emet are still talking about it. I think it really made my emet worse cause I am so paranoid now. I started taking grape seed extract as well to try to ward off the nasty noro. I hope it works. Seems like it has for other people. I have heard that grape seed extract has a ton of other benefits as well. So even if it doesnt keep noro away it cant hurt to take it to stay healthy other ways.
When I had a sv a little over a year ago, I took zofran too. I was up most of the night before v*ing and didn't take zofran until after I hadn't v*ed for a while. It really helped with the n* the rest of that day and I didn't get sick again after. I also heard about the grape seed extract and I heard that grape juice works at killi noro too. I drink 100% grape juice every day now
I have Gravol, Reglan, Zofran, and Pepto for when the day comes! Hopefully it won't come anytime soon ...
