    Default Emetophobia Censoring

I have a question about all this censoring I've seen on the Emetophobia forums. I keep seeing v* and sv* and all the stuff like that, and don't get me wrong I totally understand that some emetophobics don't like seeing those words (I only really don't like v* much, the others are fine), but the question is, even though I don't have a problem with the other words, should I still say sv*, for example? Is there some sort of Forum Rules topic that states that we should all say v* and sv*? Will I get into trouble if I say the actual words?

There is absolutely no rule against it at all (at least not that i have seen or read about). Vomit is really the only word that bothers me, but it doesn't send me into a panic or anything . The only reason I, personally, abbreviate is because it's simply easier. We are on an emet site, so sv is understood as stomach virus, d* is understood as diarrhea, etc. And I guess we write about that stuff a lot lol. So, for me, it's more of a short hand. Some feel we should write out the words as not to give the emet more "power," and I get that, too. I continue to abbreviate because I don't do it out of fear of the words-- simply convenience .

I agree with jennjt--I do it out of convenience and also out of respect for those who are triggered by the actual words, because some people are. the words do not bother me, I can even say them and talk about them in conversation--that's a definite improvement for me since I was younger! But, no, you're not going to get in trouble.

None of the words actually bother me either. I abbreviate mostly because I know the words do bother others, though.

I abreviate for others. The words don't bother me at all.

Ok thanks for your answers. I think I'll continue abbreviating for others if I ever need to use those words, but normally I find a way around it by using words like "being sick" or getting just a "virus" or "feeling sick".

I abbrieviate for others but it's actually quite convenient to abbreviate.

I abbreviate also, purely out of laziness. Reading or writing the words don't bother me at all. What's weird is I don't like saying them verbally, almost as if by saying them out loud will jinx me.....

If it was convenient for me, I'd do it everywhere, but people wouldn't understand, and for me I prefer to write out full words.
