Default Question about kids' symptoms at school? Isn't a week and a half a bit long?

I was talking to another teacher today and she said that most of the kids in her class that have had a sv lately have had it for a week or so. She said one kid has had it for a week and a half and is still running a fever. Isn't that a bit long?

I know noro is usually gone in 24 to 48 hours...rota is longer, but a week and a half? And these are 6 year olds. Would they be getting rota at their ages?

Just wondering. I'm hoping the mom of the boy who's had it for a week and a half has taken him to the doctor. He could be dehydrated!

That does seem unusually long for a SV :/ poor kids! But, with this teacher not being emet, she might not have as much knowledge as we do, when it comes to true SV's. So, they could have anything from the flu (regular.) to other respiratory things that she is just passing off as SV, bc a few may have V* (from PND). Does this make sense or am i just blabbering? lol

I have been hearing similar comments from my mom friends, sdd. I have had three different friends now describe a sv their kids had that has v or d with fever on the first day, then a fever tbat recurs for up to three more days. It is kind of freaking me out, to be honest. It sounds so different.

I hope maybe the kid who has had a fever for a week maybe has influenza rather than sv? My DS did have some v when he had influenza A this season.

I am kind of hoping it isn't really noro, but just a random virus that causes kids to v. In 2/3 families, only the kids were ill. These are non-emets also, so I am sure they weren't bleaching like crazy or drinking tons of grape juice either. So maybe rota? But one of the sick kids was 9 years old, so who knows?

It sounds a lot like rota. I'm pretty sure that is what my son had. He had fever and then d. He only v once and spit up a few times. He had it for 4 to 5 days and none of us caught it. Although we all did have noro before and he didn't. So, who knows?

My six year old got it on Friday night and had it until Thursday. Our neighbors daughter who is 15 had it for four days. My oldest 8 had it for 4 days too. It is a weird virus this year.
