Welcome to the site! I too have OCD, and have MANY rituals I have to follow. I am actually seeing a therapist right now who is helping me through my OCD. She thinks that as soon as I can get over my OCD, I can get over my emet. I will never like to be sick, but hopefully my life will not revolve around it anymore. Again, welcome to the site! Everyone here is great and you will get lots of good advice.

    Hi

I also have OCD, I seem to go through phases, I have a bad emet phase then a bad OCD phase, I can't really separate the two very well. I have had this since I was 13, mainly due to neglect and being shouted at when i was ill. Im 21 now.

Do you find that this interferes with your life very much? I have just finished uni and will start work full time in September, im so scared about bugs going around and me hearing about them and being all 'ocd-like'!, I just work part time at the moment but even that is stressful.

    Take care, nicki

I have OCD, and right now it's under control because I'm on Zoloft. I go through times where I have rituals... they change and include handwashing, praying, saying certain things repeatedly.....

i think i have some sort of ocd. i have habits of little things that i still do to this day. i think it started with emet. i think that probably the two are related or originated from the same event/ or events.

i have a thing with the #5 and #10, i mean i dont turn the lights on 5 times, but i seem to do things in the #'s. i actually told my boyfriend that and he says that he has a thing with the #4 and #8. i think everyone has a little ocd.

OCD and phobia are both anxiety disorders, and therefore closely related. Because all phobics find ways to calm their anxiety, often it's an 'easy' jump to doing the thing over and over in order to find that calm over and over...they you've got yourself a case of OCD. The good news is that the cure for both is the same. You have to learn to tolerate anxiety, GRADUALLY - ever so little, by little until you can stop doing the ritualistic thing and not experience the intolerable anxiety you would now.

There's a thread going in the "Treatments" section about the "causes" or "triggers" of the phobia - it's called "question for Sage" - check it out.

Hello Manda, and welcome to the site. I just wanted to say that I too am an OCD sufferer. I am currently undergoing intensive outpatient treatment for it in which we practice exposure and response prevention therapy. It is working, and I am making progress, but it is still very challenging! So, I too can relate with the washing, rituals, etc. Once again, welcome to the family! You have come across a great community of people here! Edited by: NCsmile6

Hello Manda! Welcome to the site.

I have O.C.D - I've had it for as long as I can remember. My main concerns are neatness for some strange reason. However, since a child I've always been accustomed to cleaning, and daily rituals my mother enforced was to tidy my room. Some other strange things I do is when I enter my room I have to turn my light on, off, on, off, then on. When I close a door behind me (however not in public) I must lock it, unlock, lock, unlock, then lock. I generally avoid cracks on the sidewalks and in restaurants I clean the utensils. I never use a bar of soap twice.

Welscome to the Board, manda! I hope you find lots of support here..i know i have, and im a newbie too.

I avoid cracks in sidewalks, but i've been doing that for such a long time, probably about 10 years, that i do it habitually. i dont even realize im doing it anymore. but in the event i catch myself doing it, i can easily stop myself. that's not what concerns me.

my main, and biggest OCD issue is praying. I pray a lot not to be n* or v*, and lately i've gotten these weirs things in my head, that when i see something bad happen, like on tv or in a movie, and sometimes in real life i find my mind saying, "i wish that would happen to me". But of course i don't want any of that stuff to happen to me, so i pray for it not to.Like i recently watched "The Ring", and i think i prayed everytime something bad happened (yes, including the part where she chokes)..i just feel like if i wish, even in my head, for anything to happen, it will..i guess part ofthat comes from my mom always lecturing me about "watch what you wish for..you just might get it". sometimes my mind even says, "i wish i could v*"..and then i pray.thats why im glad 2jo2 mentioned praying, i dont see that in many OCD books.

about a year ago, i thought i was the only person who had this exact problem..emet, and OCD because of it. THANK GOD i found this forum!
