    Default Anyone on Fluvoxamine?

My therapist recommended I talk to a doctor about using fluvoxamine instead of using fluoxetine for my issues. His reasoning is that fluvoxamine is notorious for helping with OCD and he said my emet has a flavor of OCD (I imagine most emets are like this). Has anyone here used fluvoxamine? My fluoxetine is only making things worse, but I don't want to switch if fluvoxamine won't help much.

    Thanks guys!

I was on Luvox, which is the brand name of the same thing, right? Please know this is only for me-- it may be a wonder drug for you I had to stop taking it because it was making me have exercise intolerance-- and working out is one of my favorite things to do-- couldn't have that! I would get really light-headed and sweaty / dizzy / n*. Not sure why it caused that for me, as it's not even listed as a side effect. As soon as I got off of it, however, it went away. So... it was just weird.

The worst part for me wasn't necessarily the Luvox, though-- my psychiatrist (well, EX psychiatrist) switched me WAY too quickly from Luvox to Effexor... I also take occasional Imitrex for migraines, and the combination of the 3 ended up in Serotonin syndrome. Not a good day. I have heard great things about it for OCD, though. My OCD is really just emet-related, so it didn't have much effect. Lexapro is best for me, but others take it and have negative side effects. It's such an individual thing! Hope you find a good match soon! It took me a long time, but has been so helpful for me in facing my emet.

Thanks for the response! Luvox is the brand name for fluvoxamine, yes.

How has Lexapro helped your emet? I think my OCD is very much emet related as well. I'm also always aware of germs and I hate touching things because I feel like I need to wash my hands all the time. But anyways...you said that Lexapro has been very helpful, could you possibly provide details if you don't mind?

    Thanks!

For me, Lexapro feels like it has just "turned the volume down" on my anxiety. It's still there, but I am no longer nearly agoraphobic. I still have my quirks, but I can live my life, if that makes any sense. I have tried many anti depressants (SSRIs and SNRIs), and it just seems to fit me the best. It is definitely no magic cure, but the quality of my life is greatly improved on the medication. Before, I felt that "fear of impending doom" a majority on the time. I would have a panic attack going to a friend's house 10 minutes away. That is gone! I'm just a normal emet, doing my best to push myself past my fears.

Interesting! Thanks for your response. I'll have to ask my doctor about Lexapro and see what other options might be available, because this is getting out of hand.
