i was just
eating some chips and salsa and noticed it tasted a little funny so i
looked at the experation date of the salsa. it said "use by 7/21" which
was exactly a week ago. now im really scared i may get sick. </span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
what are the odds that i will get sick from it?!?! </span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
<br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">

I think you will be fine. Usually that kind of stuff is still good after the expiration date. My husband eats stuff that is expired all of the time and he has never gotten sick so I don't think you have anything to worry about!

I also think you should be fine. It was only a week so the chances of you being s* are very slim. The stomach is much stronger than we think- especially us emetophobes! The acid in the stomach islikely to have killed off any harmfulbacteriaanyway, especially as there was probably little or none in the salsa. It was about a month or two ago that I'd eaten a box of them little cereal bars and as I was eating the last one, I looked at the expiry date and it had gone off for about 2 months!!! EUGH!!! I'd only bought it recently from the shop too! I was well shocked and panicked after that for ages but nothing happened! PHEW!!! So yeah, I think you should be fine, don't worry- our stomachs are strong!

I agree that you will be OK. I think w/ soemthing like salsa the worse that happens is it loses it's flavor. My brother eats chicken a week after it's been cooked so I'm sure you'll be fine. Plus remember that they didn't used to put use by or sell by dates on things like that. There's things that have dates on them now that before they did that I used waaaaay past what would be the expiration date.Edited by: SimplyMe

I am actually shocked that you posted this. I have some news that I hope you find reassuring!! It's out of the July Issue of Woman's Day. I've retyped it so that everyone will believe me!!

Eat Salsa to stave off food poisoning

Going to Mexico? Eating out a lot at public buffets? Have some Salsa with your tacos, chips, or shrimp. Researchers, reporting in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, have identified a compound in cilantro-- a key ingredient in salsa-- that kills harmful salmonella bacteria. In laboratory tests, the compound, called dodecenal, was twice as effective at killing salmonella as the commonly used medicinal antibotic, gentamicin. "We were surprized that dodecenal was such a potent bacteria-fighter." says study leader Isao Kubo, chemist. "The study suggests that more people should eat salsa with their meals."

Can you believe it??? I'm really shocked that you posted this because I had been planning on posting the article as a little emet FYI. I hope it gives you a little reassurance!! :-)
