I'm not really scared of being sick.. I mean I hate it and avoid doing
it as much as I can but if I'm going to I'll do it. I mostly freak out
if I can hear/see/smell sick around me. Once my brother was sick in the
hall after a night out drinking and when I got up the next day I was
due to go out and meet friends and I was too scared to walk through the
hall that smelt and had sick. I was actually considering going out my
window! I had to shout someone from inside my bedroom to come and clean
it so I could come through but no one would clean it at that time in
the morning and I didn't have enough time to wait and my dad said I was
being ridiculous and told me to just walk round it so eventually i had
to holding my nose with my eyes closed and I binned those socks once I
had done it.

Does it sound like I am?

You do.

It was glaringly obvious when you described considering going out the window to avoid seeing vomit.

Some emets just fear others being sick more than themselves being sick.

I'm not too bad if I'm in an open place like a street and someone is
sick.. I can't watch but I'm okay I just avoid it but it's when I'm in
a enclosed area and I have to be near it I can't stand it.

That's good to hear. Atleast it doesn't interfere with your life too much.

I envy you.

Yeah you got a good point, of course we envy all the 'normal' people.

My main fear is myself being sick so it's a little different. I
basically freak out anytime I feel some sort of stomach pain and think
that it means that I have a stomach virus or food poisoning (when most
all of the time it's just gas or cramps).

I had it pretty under control for a few years but it flared up recently
when stomach virus went through my house. I've been getting a little
better but for a while there I was afraid to sleep, to ride in other
people's cars, to eat certain things. I had trouble going to school for
most of the last semester because I'd constantly be afraid I was going
to be sick.

Aww! Talking about rides.. that's another thing I hate I hate going on
rides because I'm scared someone is going to be sick (I know I won't
it's just other people).

You are lucky that it doesn't bother you that much when other people throw up. As for me I freak out when other people do it and I'm constantly worried that I'll do it too. I limit the foods I eat and the places I eat at, I'm a nut when it comes to not puking. Anyway welcome to the site!

I'm sitting here reading all your posts, and I realized how different
everyone's fear is. We all have emet, but we are all a little
different. I am not really scared of other people getting
sick. It does bother me a bit....for fear of catching something,
but other then that, I'm ok with it. I lived with a roomate who
had a VERY weak stomache. She v* like 3 times a month.
Everything made her sick. I spent many a night sitting next to
the open bathroom door, talking to her. V* didn't bother her at
all! She used to joke about it. On the other hand, I am
scared to death of doing the deed myself! I rarely leave my house
because of it. So of course, I wish I could be more scared of
other people doing it. But if I was, I would probably think the
other way around. Carrie

Yes, there are different "manifestations" of this disorder, but it all amounts to about the same thing. And the good news is that treatment is the same, no matter how you manifest it.

Broken Angel - there is good treatment available. And your dad needs to understand better. Go to the treatments thread and print out the INFO TO GIVE YOUR DR. OR FAMILY at the sticky link near the top. Give it to your parents to read, and then sit down and talk with them about your phobia. Perhaps they can help you to get treatment.

All the best!
