One of my children is sick. I swear I think this stuff is never ending, it seems like all I have done all summer is deal with sick kids. All they have had this summer is D* and V*. I swear I think I am gonna go insane, AND school starts next week. Just lovely, more stress for me. Anyway, my youngest daughter started running a fever this am, I thought, no biggie, we all have this cold/allergy/sinus crap, its probally a secondary infection from that. So, I made her an appt. with the doc and off we went. We werent even out of the driveway when she V* the first time. We got her out and cleaned her up and changed her clothes. Then we were off, she slept most of the way to the doc., but V* once more before we got there. When the nurse took her temp. it was 103.0!!!! They gave her some Motrin and that was two hours ago and she has yet to V* that back up. So I dont know if this is an SV or not. If it is, why is she able to hold down the Motrin? She has kidney reflux and is prone to getting urinary tract infections, but she wasnt able to pee pee at the doctors office, so we dont know if that is what could be causing the fever and V*. She has even just drank some kool-aid and that was thirty mins. ago, and that hasnt come back up. So I dont know what to think. I am just soooooooooooo worn out with this stuff!!!!

Your daughter's v*ing might be from the fever. I think I heard somewhere that high fevers can make children throw up.

I am in hell ................. she has V* again, about 15 mins ago. She seems fine now. I hate this!!!! Her fever is still 102.5. So its still kinda high. Knowing my luck, this is just another SV, like everything else this summer. I hate this and I just dont know what to do or how to deal.

It very well could have been that fever that made her v*. A lot of kids will v* when thye have that high of a fever. Since she hasn't been sick since taking the Motrin, it probably was due to the fever. Did she complain of stomach problems before? A UTI could definitely cause her to have the fever and v*.Poor thing! I hope she feels better soon!

I am so sorry that you are going through this. She could be v* cause of her high fever. Sometimes when your fever is so high, it makes you feel sick. I am praying thatall it is, I wish you luck, and I will pray that you can make it through.

I was halfway through writing my response when you posted the update. Again, her fever was up so it is probably just from the fever. How long has it been since she had Motrin? Can she have some more to bring it back down again? If the Motrin isn't cutting it, it may be a UTI or something that needs some treatment. I

Jennyleigh - Oh, Honey. I am soooo sorry for you. I have been living pretty much in fear that my kids will be sick soon. They are back in school, and apparently there is a stomach bug going around. A woman I work with left early today because of it. But you have had more v'g than anyone - even a non-emet - should have to deal with. I don't know if this is a sv - the fever frankly seems a little high for that. Seems like you get high fevers when you are fighting an infection - like a kidney or urinary infection. To be safe, I would treat it like a sv though, and be really good about your hygiene.

I think the only thing that helps me at times like this with my kids isknowing that I have made through before. It will be over soon although it is totally sh**** going through it. Also, you should plan something really nice for yourself in the near future. Have your husband take the kids and go off on your own for an afternoon (or more!) Keep us posted.

After she V'd that last time (about 45 mins ago) I gave her a shower and when she got out, I gave her a Tylenol supp. and a Phenagren supp. If it is an SV, maybe the phenagren will calm things down and it will work itself on through her system and then maybe it will either be over, or she will just have D*. I hate this so much, why on earth did I have three children, school is starting in a week and all I can think of is, "I wonder how much V* I am going to have to deal with this school year?" This is what I am thinking instead of How wonderful school is going to be for them, well, I am thinking that too, but the emet is over-riding the good thoughts. Anyway, I will keep you guys posted.

Not that any of us wants to hear this, our doctor told us today that SV's are pretty common this time of year. (end of summer) He did say that handwashing is very important in insuring that we (the adults) dont get it. I hope he is right. I was here by myself when she V'd that last time. I had to clean it up and all. I wore gloves, cleaned with bleach, the whole nine yards. I just want to get through this. I keep telling myself that as they get older, it wont be so hard to deal with, I hope I am right.

Jennyleigh--I am so sorry to hear this. You have had a rough summer. Maybe this means that you will not have a rough winter. Maybe your kids are getting it all over with before winter time and you won't have to worry about it for a while.

I admire your strength because it seems as if you are handling things very well. What did your doctor seem to think was going on? It could be a kidney infection--that can definitely cause the fever and *v*. Please keep us updated and I hope she feels better soon.

    Take care...

He said that a kidney infection or bladder infection was possible, given her history with the kidney reflux, but her CBC was not elevated. So, he said that whatever was going on with her was probally viral. She hasnt v'd again since I gave her that suppository about 5:30pm. She is having diarrhea now. I think that maybe this is what my son and my oldest daughter and my husband have had. Two of my nieces have had it also. One of the had the vomiting and the diarrhea and the fever, and the other one just had the fever and the diarrhea. My husband and my oldest daughter just had diarrhea, but my son had a couple episodes of V*. Another thing was that there was about a week in between people getting it, I guess it is just affecting people differently and that it has a long incubation period.

Anyway, this is where we are as of now.

Good lord... you seem to be handling it well though. That's admirable! I can barely tolerate cleaning up my dog's vomit, much less somebody else's. There seems to be something going around where I'm at as well. I caught a touch of it. Been kind of bed-ridden, feeling generally ill and having bouts of episodes, but it seemed to have passed. I hope your daughter gets well, and keep strong! She needs you more than ever.

    Jennyleigh,

I want you to know that when I read your posts, it helps me to realize how very true it is that even though we are emets, we are still able to be good mommies when our children get sick. You are being so brave and handling things very well. I am sure that on the inside you feel as if you are going to lose it, but you are doing everything you can and helping your daughter. When this all winds down you need to give yourself a pat on the back for what you have endured this summer.

How old is your daughter? How is she feeling now? How do you get phenegran suppositories? Do they have to be prescribed? If so, do doctors prescribe them regularly? Just curious.

Let us know how things are going. I hope she wakes up tomorrow all better. In the case that this is the same virus that has been going around your family, how long do symptoms seem to last? Hang in there. You are doing a great job.

I dont know how I manage to deal with things, but we do seem to get through it, dont we? I just try to keep telling myself, I wont get it, I am doing all I can, I am careful when I clean it up, ect ..............

Our doctor prescribes the Phenagren supp. The ones I am using now, are some of the same prescription from my son (from when he had it) They take the same dosage. Our docs office is pretty good about phoning in the Phenagren stuff for me though, because I have told my doc about my phobia. I think she knows it helps me cope to have some on hand. I mean, I dont think she would be giving them to me every month, but she will give me enough when I call to make me feel better about the situation.

My daughter is sleeping now. I know the Phenagren made her sleepy. She has stirred some though. She is laying on a pallet in the den with us so we can watch her til we go to bed. I am hoping that the V* is over. She is doing just like my son did when he had it. I am starting to think that this is the same stuff that my hubby and son, daughter and nieces had. Some of them just had the V8 and others didnt. The worst part of it only seems to last for about 24 hours, but the diarrhea lingers for about a week. There seems to be about a weeks incubation period also. My son got it on a Tues, hubby got it that same Fri. My niece got it the following Fri. My oldest daughter got it the next Tues. My youngest niece got it that Fri. So, this puts my youngest daughter getting it about 7 days after my youngest niece (with whom she plays with frequently)

I will keep you guys posted, Thank you all for being here. I am so glad I have a place like this to come to.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this, but you are doing well with dealing with it. It seems to be going around here, too. We have had several camps closed down because a bunch of the kids got Norwalk. I just talked to my father in law a few hours ago and it sounds like my little 4 year old brother in law may have it too. He said he felt realy warm, but when he took his temperature he was at 98.something. The little guy has been complaining of pains in his stomach too. I don't know if he has v* or d*. I am waiting to see if my sister in law gets online to chat. He used to get that way when he got constipated, so I am wondering if that is it. He is supposed to come down here to visit for the weekend in 2 weeks. I hope that if it is a sv he will not be contagious anymore by then!

It seems like what is going through your house just make the younger kids v*. If your hubby and your oldest only had d*, chances are that if you got it you would also only have d*. But I'm sure you are taking all the precautions (much more so than anyone else) so you probably won't get it. I'm sure the worst is over. SHe will probably be up and back to normal in the morning.

Well, I am off to bed, even though I am afraid to go. I always get scared when its time to go to bed and theres sickness in the house.

My daughter is still sleeping peacefully.

How was your night? Did your daughter sleep through the night? Did you get a good night's rest as well? Just wondering how things are going.

Emily is doing so much better. She has drank some Pedialyte(sp?) and eaten some popcorn. She does have diarrhea now though. This SV affected my son the same way it has her. He had some V* with it too. So did one of my nieces, but they were the only two with the V* I think the worst of this one is over. I will continue to keep you guys posted.

    Thank you all so much!!!!
