Hi. I just wanted to tell everyone I'm starting EMDR on Thursday, August 4th. I'm very nervous.

Does anyone know what I can expect my first visit with the psychologist that will be doing my EMDR?

You should expect just an assessment, a lot of questions, etc. He or she won't do any eye-movements on the first visit, I don't think. Anyway, if you don't want to that day, then don't - you're in control of your own therapy. Make sure you ask a million questions, and that you're FULLY informed before you begin. Also make sure he is. Let him know EXACTLY what you're afraid of (if anything). Some people worry the EMDR will make them sick, but that's impossible. If you start to get anxious just at the IDEA of it, then he doesn't have to start it, cuz you're already into the anxiety, and you can just work with that. Also, he can go very slowly and can easily stop whenever you want to stop.

The good news is that it speeds up the process of treatment quite a lot. It's very cool - very interesting. And you're fully conscious, and fully in control at all times so really...you're just treating yourself. It's awesome.

    Good luck!
