gotta wonder, if you had a very minor amount of sleep due to a panic attack due to having gagging / pains / shivers (general feeling sick signs for me), and are still having it - what do you do? do you go to work, or do you tell your boss whats going on? and have you already told your boss about emetophobia?

im not sure what to do - its not really a job im going to, but more job seekers allowance (which funds my travel to job search :P)

if you'all could give me your little storys on this type of situation, i'd love to hear them

i think you shoudl go to the doctor. it may help if you are sick. have you always felt this way when you panic?

kinda, yea - normaly it wouldnt take over sleep tho - so its strange, to be honest - i think i should see a docter as soon as possable about it, seeing as i seem to be getting worse as each day passes (stupid depression )

what would you do in the same situation as me though? would you go to "work", or try and explain whats going on to the boss?

If you have a good relationship with your boss, I would call in "sick" and say you were up all night sick. Or, I would suck it up and go to work and just count down the hours until you can go home. THen, I would definitely make an appt to talk to a doctor about getting on some anti-anxiety/antidepressant meds. When I panic I start to shiver too, so don't be alarmed about that.

indeed, i ended up going, i made it thankfully :P so tempted to go to sleep now though, feel like im going to v' any second now for the last two days due to the lack of sleep (which i feel is because the change in the amount i have been smoking, which my body is not used to such a small amount) ... sigh, hope this ends soon, and yea - about the doctor thing, when i got home i made an apointment for tuesday, cant wait to see what they can do for me, because emet sure is making looking for work hell :P

(and yea, about the boss relationship, i did that last week, and thats why i dont have any cash to buy cigs ) .. was just useing it as an example for prior use for when i start full time work

[ps] thanks for the reply Aguerra, its soothing to know that people go through this also, and we can help each other along the way

I always cowboy up and go to work. I am sick plenty and use my sick time on that, but refuse to let emet make me miss work. I am somewhat friends with my boss even, and really good friends with my coworkers, but I still don't disclose anything about my personal life.

Sometimes, I do think it would be easier to have everything out on the table, but it could also complicate things too.Edited by: ChippedAway

I don't work now, but when I did and didn't sleep during the night (never been a good sleeper and suffer terribly now from insomnia) I'd just go in as usual. I guess it depends what work you do, if it's very physical it could be a struggle. I worked in an office so was sat at a desk all day. It also helped that we were on flexi time so if I was so very tired I'd start that bit later or leave early.

I told some of my work mates about my emetophobia, and all were understanding and one even said that she could thoroughly understand as she got in a real panic too if she thought she was going to v*. There are more of us emets around than you ever imagine!

One thing I will say to you norrock, is if you feel like you need a bit of a break whilst you get your life back on track (you may need at the moment to concentrate all your efforts into getting out of your depression and becoming less anxious), you could ask your doctor to give you a sick note which you then send into the Job Centre. This will mean you get your benefit but don't have to sign on or look for work. It may be that you feel getting a job would help you take your mind off things, I don't know - it's just something to think about.

i've been up all night having panic attacks like that before - the day before i had to go to work as well. The only way i cud left myself drift off to sleep was at 4 in the morning when i told myself that i don't HAVE to go to work.

but in the end i did go in. I was as anxious as hell, but once i'd done it, it had given me some much needed confidence.

So whilst i do suggest you see a Doctor anyway, i also suggest you try and make yorself go to "work" as much as you can.

Funny...this happened ot me last night, and has happened 2 or 3 times since I started my job (been here about 7 months). I woke up at 2:30 a.m. with a migraine, weird coughy feeling in my throat and then of course got nervous, sick to my stomach. I had to take two Xanax and an imitrex for my head to get back to sleep. After 2 hours I finally slept. Of course I was a zombie this morning from all the meds and lack of sleep, but I have already missed a lot of days so I didn't feel a choice in the matter. Besides, the Xanax had me pretty doped up so at least I didn't feel nauseous. it is now an hour away fom going home though and I have hit a wall. I am extremely tired and my headache is coming back, but at least I know i put in another day and don't have to worry about taking too many sick days again!

I did call in sick the last couple times this happened.

Hehe, glad to see im not the only one that has this kinda stuff

anyways, to the doctor issue - they didnt give me any meds, but forwarded me on towards a pyscholigst (mind the spelling, its late :P) - so in other words, when im having an anxiety attack due to waht ever reason, im kinda stuck with it.. and gotta live through it.. which kinda sucks... (reason he wouldnt give me meds was because he said im not expressing full on emet panic attacks.. which is fair enough.. i dont suffer from it as bad as others.. but still...even a medium panic attack over emet is bad enough, orevenan anxiety attack is bad enough to just try and ignore..

you said about "Xanax" mjewell.. can that be brought in the chemist?

    Hi Norrok -

Sorry I don't understand what you mean by chemist, is that pharmacist? yeah, Xanax is a prescription, similar to valium, I think they have valium in the uk don't they? It was prescribed for my anxiety/panic attacks and is very common here in the states.
