Default Other members mad at my post.

Iv`e just read the replies to my rant about adults vting in public, & everyone seems to think that I was trolling. I think that everyone got the wrong end of the stick. I was just trying to say that i can`t help but be annoyed at the way people are vting in public like it was no big deal, like sneezing. Maybe theyr`e right about people not being able to control it, but then they probably aren`t emetophobes. I was bullied for vting in school, & I know that doing it had disgusted my classmates & made them angry a t me, 7 this is probably why i feel the way I do today. Vting in public is absolutely my worst nightmare, & I`d go to any lengths to avoid it, so when I get annoyed about people vting in public, it`s just a symptom of my fear.

I'm terrified of v* in public too, but that post was a little over the top. I'm sorry you feel that way though, and I now understand why you said what you said. Kids are a bit mean and I'm sorry that bullied you for that. I hope things go in a better direction for you.

Hairy, it's one thing to be afraid of it happening in public, and seeing it in public, and you explained your reasoning for it. But what I don't understand is that how you're taking something from when you were 7 years old and projecting it onto the rest of the world. I was bullied too when I was a child. and like another member said, it only made me that much more compassionate. Seven year olds react a LOT differently than adults do/should. My boyfriends niece and nephew are seven and their initial reaction to something gross and "ew yuck!!" and they act in a matter of being grossed out, which does seem like anger.. but they don't know better! and your post was targeted at adults. You know how you felt when it happened as a child. It wasn't your fault, you can sit there and say it was but the reality of it was that it wasn't. you were sick. you didn't hurt anyone. What is an adult doing when they are sick in public? nothing. just being sick. It's probably extremely embarrassing for them. It's really sad that you'd feel obligated to pay a fine if you were sick in public....that's just really sad.... because it's totally wrong.

Your attitude that you're projecting on this board is the exact treatment you fear being done onto you. That's what's upsetting us.

    Hey hairy,
I apologize if I came across as being angry with your post-I wasn't. I found a couple things you said hurtful in that it would upset me greatly if someone called me disgusting for inadvertently v* in public (probably the last thing on earth I would ever want to do). I think I read previously that you had a difficult time with others when you were sick as a child-for some reason I assumed it was your parents. As petrified as I am of v today, I have no idea why because unlike you I was never shamed or punished for doing so as a child and I'm sorry you had to experience that. I'd imagine my emet would be 10times worse if I had.
Anyhow, just wanted to further explain myself and apologize if I'd inadvertently given you the impression that I was angered.
    Take care
    Jennifer

Now I kind of understand why you feel this way, but I really find it hard to sympathise when I remember the bitterness of that post hairy. What bothers me is that you post that sort of thing to people who have that exact fear, of being judged for vomiting in public. Its not tactful, and like I said in the other thread, if you want to be cynical and insensitive then don't expect everyone to coddle you. I think professional help would benefit you more.

I see both sides of the argument here. I definitely think that you could have been more sensitive in your post because other members, me included, are petrified of throwing up in public and its part of what drives us here.

on the other hand, I think that the meanness and ridicule got out of control and I've felt like that's happened a lot lately. Sort of a mob mentality when it comes to putting other people down. Many people on this site have been bullied in their past and everyone has dealt with it differently. Hairy is not wrong in her response to bullying. If you've become a more compassionate person because of bullying, consider yourself lucky, because that is not always the case. There is no one set way bullying can effect you. I implore you guys to understand this because I work hard at my job to prevent bullying...and I see it a lot on this site.

i in no way support what hairy said, I think her logic was flawed and she needs to get a grip on her phobia because its too big of an influence on her life.

    Soooo yeah....

This isn't meant to be rude or condescending in any manner, but I think the saying, "It's not what you say, but how you say it," applies well to many posts on this forum.

OK - sorry to keep posting here
I just found it and not that my 2 cents mean anything because they don't, but...

I agree with you Hairy. I don't know about a fine - I would rather see the law slam down way harder on idiots that text and drive at the same time, but I agree that most adults CAN control themselves to some extent and should at least try to be a little more respectful in public - but a lot just don't and we can't change the world. All we can do is control our own lives the best we can - and do our best to stay the heck away from those that are ... unable to control themselves.

    Hugz and support.
