Default Question for those in recovery

Not sure if many emets that are recovering still drop by, but just in case.

By and large, CBT was a resounding success for me; I no longer feel panic with regards to other people being unwell and when I'm not feeling unwell, I don't even think about becoming ill.

    However.

All it takes is a deep growl in my belly or a particularly forceful burp for me to be almost crying and automatically doing safety behaviours.. I'm fine until nausea washes over me, then all I can think is 'please don't let this be happening'. The panic is overwhelming.

Has anyone ever experienced particularly tough 'mental road blocks'?

Supposedly this is normal. I haven't experienced many bad thoughts since being on this recovery road! It will happen tho and i've been told jus to expect this and not be down when it happens. I'm on a similar recovery with social phobia and this is common with that too. It does not mean we are failing just because we have a few bad thoughts.

I find that the thoughts come and go for me, but the difference now is that I don't let them consume me or become my "truth." I call bulls*t on them instead of believing them, I sometimes even laugh about it. I have also found that thoughts come up when I am stressed about completely unrelated things! They are simply an old way of thinking, a conditioned response, no more. Don't take them seriously and don't believe for one second that you haven't come a long way with your recovery!
We have got to be able to laugh at ourselves about this!!

Ohh, a recovery thread. I think I'm welcome here.

CBT works great for me, and about the nausea panic, it gets better with time. I'm at a point where, when I get nauseous, I don't feed the fear, I consider it anxiety and go on with my life.
Tick tock, time is passing and so is your life. Enjoy it while you can.

I've definitely has those moments. It's all about pushing through and remembering that you survived, and that 99.99% of the time you didn't get sick! The past triumphs help you tackle future troubles.
